twenty one | glass half full

Ronnie's POV

I gently tap his face, trying to wake him.

Why the hell was he drinking?

"Colby. Colby.." I continue in a gentle voice.

His eyes slowly open and he blinks a few times.

He looks around then down at himself on the cold tiling.

"Hey bud. Come on" I whisper while attempting to lift him up.

"Ver.." he slurs.

I can smell whiskey and vodka escaping his mouth.

"Shhh"

I manage to get him up.

I help him inside.

He is stumbling and touching everything he passes.

Thank God he is conscious or I would literally have to drag him inside.

I get through to the kitchen and pull out a seat for him.

He sits down and holds himself up with his hands gripping the table.

It seems as if he is becoming more aware now.

I hope.

I walk over to the sink and grab a clean glass.

I pour some water and make my way back over to him.

I lift the glass to his mouth.

I see the waters journey as he swallows.

His Adams apple moving up and down.

I place the glass down on the table.

Half full.

I walk to the opposite side of the kitchen to get some paper towels.

"I love you"

My body freezes and I place my eyes on the wall.

He's drunk.

He is out of his mind right now.

I slowly turn around to face him.

It looks just like normal Colby.

His pupils were dilated and he was sitting up straight.

He was clearly still drunk.

He wouldn't remember any of this in the morning.

"Come on, let go to bed." I say still in shock.

He stands up and places his hand on the pillar.

I rush over to help him but he pushes my hand back.

"I'll do it myself" he says quietly.

He sounds hurt.

I loved him back.

I just refuse to tell him like this.

I refuse to tell him something he won't remember.

I watch him stumble over to the staircase and hold a firm grip on the railing.

He places one foot on the first step.

I watched this grown man climb the stairs like bambi.

One foot after the other.

One by one.

Step by step.

As he walked up the staircase and to his bed to pass out.

He somehow.

Took my heart with him.

I was in love with Colby.
