"You can't take her!" The same male voice from before.
"I'm not taking her at all. She chose me." A different male voice replied.
"As if she'd chose you over me!" The first voice was mad, angry and strangled.
The other boy laughed.
"She'd pick dirt before she ever chooses you," he smirked.
Ambrosia, c'mon. We're leaving," the first boy snarled.
"I-uh. I think I'm staying," I replied.
"Like hell you are," he snarled, grabbing my arm and tugging me.
"Stop! Stop it! You're hurting me!"
"You should've thought of that before you chose him!"
I stared back desperately at the other boy. "Help, please."
"Let go," the second boy said coldly, grabbing the other boy's wrist.
"I'm not losing her!"
"Thomas!" I screamed as the boy tugged me again.
I bolted up, breathing heavily.
"Amb? Amb what's wrong?" Thomas was at my side immediately, looking at me alertly.
I glanced around the room, remembering where I was.
The TV screen shone in the dark, a blanket covering me and the couch as I leaned against Thomas.
I'm home. That was just a nightmare. We were watching a movie weren't we? We were.
Relief flooded through my veins and my heart slowed.
"Nothing...just a nightmare," I sighed.
Thomas stared at me lovingly and wrapped his arms around me reassuringly.
"You're ok now Amb," he said, squeezing me.
"I know," I murmured, burying my head in his chest as tears pricked the corners of my eyes.
"You wanna talk about it?" He asked, hugging me.
I paused then spoke, my voice choked with emotion.
"I was remembering...that awful night. When Percy...when he hurt me," I whispered.
Thomas' grip tightened reassuringly.
"I was so scared Thomas. I was terrified. But he just seemed so angry..." my voice trailed off.
I glanced up at Thomas and saw something close to anger dancing in his eyes.
"You were there Thomas," I said.
His eyes shone brighter.
I buried my head in his chest wrapping my arms around him.
"Thank you Thomas. I can't remember exactly how you looked but I know you protected me. I remember yelling your name and you...you kept me safe," I whispered, biting back a crash wave of tears.
"Anything for you Ambrosia. I'll protect you until the day I die," he replied, his arms tightening again.
I shivered as I remembered the first boy's harsh tone.
"You're mine! I'll be damned if I lose you to him!"
"Then you'll be damned!" I screamed in response.
The boy's gaze grew colder.
"He may have protected you at the party bitch. But he can't do a damn thing here!" The boy snarled as I turned my back, staring down the stairs.
Suddenly something smashed into the back of my head and the stairs rushed up to meet me.
"I'll protect you Amb. I promise," Thomas whispered, squeezing me one last squeeze.
And then I wept, his warmth promising me he would keep me safe.
