Our hands met as we danced slowly in a circle, his other arm behind his back, mine held out at my side.
"This is so dumb," I laughed as my dress swished around my feet.
He grinned as the music picked up pace and took my other hand, pulling me closer.
"You aren't enjoying this?" He whispered seductively.
"I wouldn't say that," I agreed.
The song changed to Forever Stuck In Our Youth and his smirk widened.
I laughed as he twirled me around.
I leaned backwards and his arms crossed over my chest, still gripping my hands.
"What are you doing?" I asked, laughing.
He kissed my cheek and nipped at my ear.
"Falling in love with the most stunning girl here," he breathed.
A lump formed in my throat and I glanced down at the floor, my grip weakening.
"We shouldn't be doing this," I whispered, people brushing into us.
"Why not?" The boy asked, but he seemed to understand as he let go of my hands and allowed me to face him. The music seemed to fade but I knew it was just me.
"Don't you ever feel like...what I did was wrong? That he might have been right and I..." my voice choked off as fear enveloped me.
The boy shook his head and smiled sweetly.
"You're never wrong Amb. And what you did was right. But I understand if you don't want this right now," the boy said, smiling.
The music faded in again and I made a decision. "No. I do. I'm sorry. It was dumb if me," I said, taking his hand again. He smiled wider and we begin dancing again, a grin spread on my lips as I forgot all my worries.
I blinked once, then reread the notification.
Error! Command not found! This iPhone has not been backed up for 97 weeks. Phone will back up automatically when connected to power and wifi.
I sighed as I clicked the power button. My phone had been flat for a year now. Of course it hasn't backed up.
"Dinners ready," Thomas said, standing in my doorframe. A goofy grin lit his features and I couldn't stop my heart from giving a painful squeeze as I felt love.
"Something wrong?" He asked, staring at my frustrated expression.
I shook my head.
"Ok." He turned, hand reaching out for the banister."Thomas why did you lie to me?" I blurted.
He stopped, his hand inches from the banister.
"Lie to you Amb?" He asked, looking over his shoulder.
"You were there when I gave Percy his nickname. Seaweed Brain. You laughed when I showed you the book," I said, standing up.
Thomas sighed and turned.
"I was there when you gave him his nickname but I didn't realize you'd called him that on your phone. I simply assumed you meant the book character," he shrugged.
"I-I..." I was speechless.
"He hugged me tightly. I stiffened, my mouth hanging open.
"I'm sorry Amb," he whispered coarsely.
I gaped at his statement then hugged him back.
"It's ok Thomas," I said softly.
"I wouldn't ever lie to you Amb. Never to you. I want you to know that."
