I examined the necklaces black diamond, marveling at its beauty.
"Why are there all these cracks inside of it?" I asked, looking up at the boy.
His face was blurred, but I was certain it was the boy from before.
"Well, they say that this is a fragment of a soul," he said, laughter lighting his features.
"Whose soul?" I joked, taking his hand.
He stared at me seriously, yet happiness danced in his eyes.
"The soul of a broken man who finally found love. His soul was contaminated with evil and when he found his true love, all the evilness formed into a small diamond and fell to the ground," he smiled.
I laughed, handing him the diamond necklace.
"So where'd you get it from? It must cost a fortune," I said as he stood up, standing behind me.
"Didn't buy it," he said simply. I lifted my hair up as he fastened the clip and raised my eyebrow.
"You didn't steal it did you?" I asked.
He laughed, leaning over my shoulder as he laced his arms around my neck lovingly.
"Of course not. It's a family heir loom. It's said that the eldest son in the family is to get the diamond and give it to the woman who took his heart. She will wear the diamond necklace and it will take all the evilness out of his soul and leave him complete," he said, kissing my cheek.
I laughed.
"How will his soul be complete if the darkness is removed?" I asked.
"She will fill the space with love and kindness and compassion," he grinned.
"She must be one hell of a woman to do that," I laughed.
"You are Amb. That's why I chose to give the diamond to you."
I laughed again.
"Are you sure it's ok that you're giving it to me? Your mom won't be mad will she?" I questioned, touching the diamond tentatively.
"I'm giving it to woman I love Amb. Of course she won't mind," he laughed, his laughter melodic.
"You're so silly," I burst out laughing as he leaned in and kissed me.
"I mean it Amb. I love you," he protested.
The memory faded, leaving me staring at the necklace in my hand.
The chain was a simple sliver chain with the diamond set in silver plating with smaller diamonds around it.
The whole thing was in an oval shape and wasn't much bigger then my thumb nail. Yet it glittered and refracted the light like a spotlight.
A knock on my door jolted me out of my thoughts and I hastily stuffed the necklace under a book on my desk.
"Amb? You ok?" Thomas asked, pushing the door open.
"Uh yeah," I said, smiling at him.
"Ok...well if you need anything, just call me ok?"
"Yeah. Night Thomas."
"Night Amb."
He turned and left, shutting the door.
I sighed in relief and took the diamond out again.
Examining it again, I knew immediately that the boy in the memory wasn't Thomas.
The way he said I love you was so different from Thomas' way.
"Who are you?" I asked, turning my head. I sighed and dropped the necklace into one of my draws, standing up.
I slipped under the covers of my bed, the boy's last words echoing through me head as I faded into a dreamless sleep.
"I mean it Amb. I love you."
