Anxiety and Prince were known for their tendency to turn everything into a competition.
So it was no surprise when they made a competition out of one of Prince's favorite things: romance.
"Wait. You mean you haven't had a first kiss before?" Anxiety had said, surprised. "But you love romance."
"Oh, shut it. Like you're one to talk." Prince said. "I'll be married by the time you even have your first kiss."
Anxiety snorted. "As if. I could have my first kiss before you."
"Really? You're going against me at my own game, huh?" Prince said.
"Bring it on." Anxiety said.
"If you lose, you can't wear makeup for a day." Prince said.
Anxiety gasped. "That's just plain cruel!"
"I thought you were confident in the fact that you'll win. You should have nothing to lose." Prince said.
"Ugh, fine. If I win, no Disney references for a day." Anxiety told him.
"I guess that's fair," Prince sighed. "Alright. Deal."
Anxiety smirked.
They shook on it, and that was that.
~~~
A month had passed since then, and neither of them had successfully scored a first kiss. In fact, they had sort of forgotten about it until Prince recalled it randomly one day.
"Hey, Anxiety." He said.
"Yeah?" Anxiety said.
"Remember how we made a bet on who could have their first kiss first?" Prince asked.
"Oh, yeah. I remember that." Anxiety said.
"Do you think we're going to remember that by the time either of us actually kisses someone?" Prince wondered.
"Eh, probably not. I mean, I don't think either of us will find someone any time soon." Anxiety said.
"Then that means we made the bet for nothing?" Prince said.
"Let's be real. How many of our bets do we actually go through with?" Anxiety pointed out.
"A good number of them, actually." Prince said. "And we're gonna go through with this one."
"How?" Anxiety said. "You got a special someone I don't know about?"
Prince walked over to where Anxiety was casually sitting on the kitchen counter.
And in one swift, light, and quick motion, he pressed his lips onto Anxiety's.
Anxiety's eyes widened in shock, but before he could react, the kiss was over.
"There. Now first kiss is out of the way." Prince said.
Anxiety was still processing. He turned to Prince. "Wha— What the hell was that?"
"Sorry." Prince said. "I should have asked first."
"A little warning might've been nice," Anxiety said.
"You're right. I'm sorry." Prince said. "But now that's out of the way, and we don't have to worry about first kiss anymore."
"Prince, the thing is..." Anxiety said. "It wasn't a bad kiss. And that's the whole problem."
"It wasn't a bad kiss, huh?" Prince said. "So how would you rank my kissing ability, one being horrible and ten being the best kiss you've ever had?"
"Prince, it was the only kiss I've ever had." Anxiety said.
"So ten out of ten?" Prince smirked.
"You're an idiot." Anxiety said.
"An idiot who's good at kissing, though." Prince said.
"You've only ever had one kiss." Anxiety pointed out.
"I can make it two, if you so want another free sample of my wonderful kissing." Prince said.
"Smooth." Anxiety said.
And with that, he grabbed his sash and kissed him.
When Anxiety let go, he made eye contact with Prince.
"You do realize this means the bet is a tie, right?"
