Three years ago, I opened up my very own diner, named Virgil's Diner after myself, because creativity was never exactly my strongpoint. It was the only diner in the small town is was located in, which was good for me because I had no competition.
One day, the place was packed. It was lunch, and I was taking orders from table after table, wondering why I refused to hire help.
And then a guy walks in. He has chocolate brown hair neatly swept to the side, and his eyes matched in color. He wore a white shirt with a red Mickey logo on it. Not only did he wear a Disney shirt, but everything about him sort of reminded me of a Disney prince that walked right out of the cartoon... and into my diner.
He walked right up to me, despite me clearly being busy taking an order. "I'll have a cup of coffee, please."
"Could you please wait a moment? I'm sorta busy here." I said, trying to stay friendly.
He didn't wait a moment. He just kept rambling on about anything and everything. He told me about his brother, Thomas, who makes YouTube videos. He told me about his passion for theater and everything Disney. He just wouldn't shut up. I took a deep breath and stared him in the eye sternly.
"Look, Prince Dude. I'm busy taking an order right now, and you're being annoying. Could you please just wait until I'm done helping this poor guy?" I said.
"Ouch, annoying?" He said, feigning sarcastic hurt.
"And obnoxious, too." I said. "Please just wait for your turn."
"When's your birthday?" He asked out of the blue.
"What?" I looked at him, confused and starting to get really pissed.
"Your birthday." He repeated himself.
I sighed and reluctantly told him, just to shut him up. Thankfully, it did.
He sat down at a table, opened up a newspaper, flipped to the horoscope section, and started writing something down on a small piece of paper.
I was relieved to have gotten him off my back, and I finished the order.
Not long after, the guy came up to me and handed me a piece of paper. He had written in scrawly cursive handwriting,
Virgo—
You will meet an annoying man today. Give him coffee and he will leave.
I looked at him.
"It's your horoscope." He explained.
"Alright, fine." I said. "I'll give you coffee."
I quickly made him a cup of coffee and gave it to him.
"Thanks, Hot Topic." He said.
"Would it physically pain you to call me Virgil?" I said. "And if you're going to tease me for being emo, there's a number of things I could say about you, just from what I've seen in the short time I've known you."
He smirked and finished his coffee. As he did, he got up to leave.
"Hold on to that horoscope. Keep it in your wallet, carry it around with you. Someday it'll bring you luck." He said.
"Pfft. Like I'm supposed to believe that." I said.
The guy shrugged. "Suit yourself."
With that, he left.
I watched him leave, then I stared at the piece of paper in my hands. The horoscope he had written. I glanced at the trash can, but... I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Instead, I found myself putting it in my wallet. I couldn't tell you why. It just... Felt like the thing to do.
Then I sighed, and served my many other customers.
~~~
The guy came in every day after that. Each day it was the same. He asked for coffee, and then left. Turns out he was beyond addicted to caffeine.
I learned his name. Roman Sanders.
And it wasn't long before we had sparked an unlikely friendship. I mean, stuff like that happens when someone goes into your diner every day asking for coffee.
Now here we were, years later, on our first official date.
And it was all thanks to one little horoscope.
~~~
Sorry for the short chapter, but it's cute and fluffy, so...
The idea wasn't mine. The plot comes from a show, and it's the story of how two characters met, and there's this scene where they're looking back on it on their first date. Of course, my fangirl mind started wondering how I could apply that to Prinxiety.
I found the clip on YouTube, and I'm going to paste it here so you can see the original if you're curious.
Btw, just to clarify... The guy is Luke. He owns a diner named Luke's, the inspiration for the diner named Virgil's in this one shot. The girl is Lorelai, the coffee obsessed girl who goes into Luke's every day and has been for the last eight years. They've been good friends for a while, (and Luke has been pining for Lorelai since season one), but this is their first official date.
Okay, that's all. Hope you enjoyed the one shot!
