"It would do you good to get out of your room and eat something." Virgil said.

Logan didn't say anything.

"C'mon, Lo."

"I hate emotions. They're so powerful and yet so unpredictable, and they only end up in hurt. I wish I could just do away with emotions permanently. When I was with Patton, I let my guard down and I let myself express emotion, but that was foolish and naive of me and I regret it. I wish I'd never done it."

"Think of all the good times you had, too. You wouldn't have done it any differently."

"I would have, I—" Logan broke off, more tears streaming down his cheeks. "Why does it hurt so much, Virgil?"

"It's a way of life. Love is brutal. It can be a wonderful thing, and it can also be a horrible thing." Virgil said.

"I loved him."

"I know."

"I still do."

"I know."

"Emotions truly are the bane of my existence." Logan sighed. "Ugh. Why do they have to exist? Why can't I just delete emotions completely?"

"Because it doesn't work like that. Emotions are a natural part of us."

"Unfortunately."

A silence.

"Are you good to go out now?"

Logan shook his head.

"Okay. I'll stay a bit longer."

~~~
The next day, Logan went outside of his room to eat, but he was... different.
He wasn't the Logan they knew.
He was cold, stoic, emotionless.
"Logan, buddy, trying to do away with emotions completely isn't a good way of coping." Virgil said.
"I don't care." Logan said.
"I know it hurts, but it's better to come to terms with that—"
"I don't care."
Virgil sighed. "Okay."
He left.
Logan made his way to the mind palace kitchen. Virgil was right. He needed to eat, he was starving.
There was one other person in the kitchen, though, and merely the sight of him made Logan stop.
Patton.
It was so soon, Logan didn't know how to react. Just seeing him felt like Logan had been shot. He wanted to say a million things to Patton... But he didn't say any of it.
"Hey Logan." Patton said hesitantly.
"Hello."
Patton wanted so badly to say something, anything, but he closed his mouth and didn't say a word.
Logan poured himself a bowl of cereal. He had to walk by Patton to get milk, so he decided to just not use milk.
Patton was watching Logan, hoping Logan would say something, hoping Logan would say the things Patton wanted to but couldn't bring himself to vocalize. Logan could feel his gaze, but didn't meet it, and instead focused on his cereal.
"Is it going to be like this forever? Us trying to avoid each other in a tiny mind palace where we're inevitably going to run into each other, pretending it's not awkward when it is, just because we're too scared to say what we actually want to say, the unspoken words that are just lingering because they're too hard to vocalize—"
Logan looked up from his cereal.
"Say... what?"
Patton froze. "That I— you— we..." He sighed. "Forget it."
"What were you going to say, Patton?"
"That I... That I miss you and I regret breaking up and I want to get back together but I don't know how because I've never done this before, and I don't know if you, I don't know what you want, I don't know—"
Logan hesitated.
"Logan?"
"Emotions fucking suck."
"Sometimes they do, Lo. Sometimes they do."
Logan met Patton's eyes and melted. "I miss you. A lot."
"Can we attempt this tricky thing called a relationship again? Can we learn from our mistakes and do better?" Patton asked.
"Love is hard. We know that now." Logan said. "It'll have to be a mutual effort, a mutual understanding. It can't be the magical connection that society makes people think love is like... That's simply inaccurate."
Patton nodded. "So that's a yes?"
"That's a yes."
Patton smiled. "Thank god."
And that was that.
~~~

It had been years since the day Logan had gone to Patton's room to ask him out, that one day that led to so much, and that was the day that was on Logan's mind as he looked at the mirror and stared at the image looking back at him. His hair was neat, he readjusted his glasses on his nose. He was wearing a tux that Virgil, Thomas, and Roman had helped him pick out, all in preparation for today.

"You ready, man?" Virgil asked. "It's a pretty big deal."

Logan nodded. "I'm ready."

"Good." Virgil said. "You're happy with him, right?"

Logan smirked. "Yes, Virgil. I'm happy with him."

"Just making sure." Virgil said. "You and Patton were meant to be from the time Thomas was born."

"Who knew you would turn out to be such the matchmaker?" Logan asked.

Virgil shrugged. "I guess my boyfriend rubbed off on me. Speaking of my boyfriend, the other day I asked him to get some milk because Patton finished the last of the milk, and then he comes back an hour later with pretty much everything that we didn't need... Everything except for milk. He forgot the milk. He's an idiot."

"But you love him."

"Unfortunately."

The day went on and the ceremony started. Logan was still a bit in awe. He never would have thought this would be happening, but it was, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Logan had learned a lot about love. Love cant be forced. Love isn't magical. Love isn't easy. Love isn't the mystical bond between two people that the media portrays love as. Love is communication. Love is mutual understanding and connecting. Love is hard, and it won't work out unless both participants are willing to make it work. Love isn't just about sex and kissing in the rain and romantic candlelight dinners, it's about two people maintaining a relationship. That being said, it was a wonderful thing. And Logan sure was glad that he decided to a step into the unknown and go for it.

That's what brought him here.

The magical words were said, two words that meant so much.

"I do."

"I do."

And that was it.

"You may now kiss the groom."

And it wasn't perfect, because life is never perfect, but it was pretty close.

And that was enough.
