"Good morning, kiddo." Patton said when he saw Virgil enter the mind palace.
"Morning." Virgil replied. "You seem tired."
"Eh, no big deal, I'll live. I just didn't get much sleep last night, that's all." Patton said.
"Why not?" Virgil asked.
"I just had chores I needed to get done. I did the dishes and the laundry, and I vacuumed a bit, took out the trash, cleaned up some..." Patton trailed off, trying to make it sound casual.
"You did a lot." Virgil said. "Have you ever thought about asking for help?"
"No, it's no big deal, kiddo. I appreciate your concern, but I have it all under control." Patton said.
"Dad, you're losing sleep over mere chores that Prince, Logic, and I could do just as well. It's okay, take a break. The three of us can cover chores in the meantime." Virgil assured him.
Patton bit his lip. "Virgil, I can't ask you to do that."
"Then it's a good thing you're not asking." Virgil said. "Go get some sleep. We've got this."
"But..." Patton hesitated. "But then what am I going to do, Virgil?"
"Get some rest." Virgil said.
"No, I mean... To help out." He said. "I have to be useful somehow, don't I? So I do the chores."
His comment shocked Virgil. "What're you talking about?"
"Roman gives Thomas ideas and creativity. That's helpful. Logan pretty much helps Thomas do basic tasks. That's helpful. Even you prevent him from getting into trouble. That's helpful. But then me... What do I do? I help him feel things? I gotta help out somehow. The least I can do is help out around the mind palace." Patton said.
"Dad, no." Virgil said. "You're maybe one of the most helpful out of all of us. You're there for us when we need it, because you have experience and you know emotions well. How many times have you been there for me when I needed it? You memorized the symptoms of a panic attack and the best ways to help someone out of it. You drive Thomas to follow his heart, and think of all the good things that come from that. You guide Thomas the way he needs to go as a father figure, but you also ensure that he never loses his inner child. And, on top of all that, you do all the chores. The least we can do is help you out around the mind palace."
A smile formed at his lips. "You really think that?"
Virgil nodded.
"Go get some rest. We owe it to you." Virgil told him. "I won't take no for an answer."
Patton smiled to himself.
"Thank you, kiddo. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that." Patton placed a small fatherly kiss to Virgil's forehead, and sank down.

Virgil had explained everything to the remaining two traits, and they were just as on board as Virgil was.
"What kind of a prince sits back and lets someone else overwork themselves for him?" Roman said.
"I, too, am regretful in our actions." Logan said. "I'm sorry Patton had to overwork himself to make up for our actions in slacking off."
"Don't worry, we'll make it up to him." Virgil said. "Logan, did you make the plan? You know I'm horrible at that planning thing."
Logan nodded. He listed off chores that needed to be done, and who would do what. He even had times listed for when they would do each chore. He was a bit too organized, but that's okay.
"Great. Thanks, Logan." Virgil said.
The three of them got started on their chores. They were cleaning and doing chores all day, and then the time came to make dinner, which they would do as well. Today was Patton's day off.
Logan handled dinner. He maybe wasn't as skilled at cooking as Patton was, but he was still better than the two younger traits, who could maybe make a grilled cheese if they tried.
He ended up preparing chicken with pasta, with green beans on the side.
"God, Logan. You're making me feel self-conscious about my lack of cooking knowledge." Virgil teased.
"Learn to cook, then." Logan said.
"Nah." Virgil said. "Anyways, Prince and I are making cookies for Patton as sort of an extra thing. That counts for something, right? And it's easy, cause there's instructions on the box."
"Be careful with those." Logan warned.
"We'll be fine." Virgil said. "How hard can it be?"

"ROMAN THE COOKIES ARE BURNING!" Virgil said.
"I'm quite aware of that, Hot Topic!" Roman said, frantically trying to get the cookies out of the oven.
"You shouldn't have left them in there that long!" Virgil told him.
"You shouldn't have let me leave them in there that long!" Roman countered, finally putting the burnt cookies on top of the unlit stove.
They were a dark brown, almost black, color. Definitely not good.
"They're blackened and dead." Roman said.
Virgil gave him a sideways look. "Did you just reference Thomas's song?"
"Quoting song lyrics is what I do, okay?" Roman said.
"Okay, well, what're we gonna do with these cookies?" Virgil said. "We can't give these to Patton. They're burnt and gross."
"What's burnt and gross?" A familiar voice from behind them asked.
"Oh, hey, Patton. We're almost ready, I promise." Virgil said. "We just have one problem."
"What's that?" Patton asked.
"It's a su—"
"We burnt your cookies." Roman blurted out.
"Nevermind." Virgil sighed.
"Cookies? You guys made cookies?" Patton asked.
The two younger traits nodded, showing Patton the burnt cookies.
"Well, that's okay." Patton said. "How about after dinner we make some more together and I'll show you how it's done?"
"But it's your day off!" Virgil protested. "This has to be special!"
"This will be special. It's not work if I get to spend quality time with you two." Patton said.
"God, that was cheesy." Virgil said. "But okay, I see what you mean."
The three of them met Logan at the table where he was setting it for dinner.
"Thank you so much. All of you. It means a lot." Patton smiled.
"It wasn't right of us to just let you do all the work yourself." Logan said.
"He's right! We're here to help if you ever need it!" Roman said.
Patton was grinning at this point. "I couldn't have better companions."
