I can't believe my little angsty baby is one year old! Well, technically he's 28, but he was introduced exactly a year ago today! Happy birthday, Virgil!

~~~
Virgil wasn't expecting much. He didn't want to get his hopes up. It wasn't even his real birthday, just the anniversary of his introduction video. December 19th wasn't even the day he manifested, just the day of that one video.
And yet... Part of him wanted something. He didn't let himself dwell on it, and he shoved it away in denial, wanting to set low expectations, telling himself he wouldn't get anything.
Would they even acknowledge it?
Virgil ended up staying in his room for the majority of December 19th, hoping the sound of his favorite music in his ears would drown out the feeling of loneliness. Today was the closest thing to a birthday he had, and he was spending it alone.
Maybe if he pretended it was just another ordinary day, he wouldn't feel so bad about himself. No expectations, no reason to be let down.
And yet, there would always be that part of him that hoped his door would swing open and Patton would beg him to spend his birthday with them, and there would be cake, and Logan would give a small but sweet smile and a "Happy birthday, Virgil", and Roman would be there to call him a teasing nickname, but this time with a grin on his face, because they both knew he meant it playfully.
But as time went on and the door stayed untouched, Virgil started to lose hope.
"Oh nonono, we're running out of time." Patton said. "Dangit, if only the cake hadn't burned.."
"If only Amazon delivered to mind palaces. I'm trying to get more wrapping paper, but it won't let me! What does it mean, 'invalid address'? I typed in 'the Thomas F. Sanders mind palace', it should be enough!" Roman sighed.
"Couldn't you just... summon it?" Logan asked. "You're a trait, after all."
Roman blinked. "Oh. I didn't think about that."
Logan rolled his eyes. "Sometimes I don't understand what he sees in you."
"Wait, what? What who sees in me? Wait— Logan!"
Logan had a slightly amused smirk on his face as he ignored Roman's attempts to know more.
The front door opened and Thomas came in with a cake. It was white cake with purple frosting and Virgil's signature lightning bolt symbol.
"I have the cake!" Thomas said and set it down on the table. "That is, cake attempt number two. Let's try not to mess this one up."
"Got it." Patton nodded. "Sorry about the other one."
"Don't sweat it, mistakes happen." Thomas said.
Roman summoned wrapping paper and started wrapping his gift.
"This is a lot harder than I thought." Roman said.
"You're wrapping a cylindrical object. Of course it's gonna be hard." Thomas said.
"The most efficient way to wrap that is to measure out the wrapping paper, then cut it about... here, and then wrap it like... this." Logan showed Roman how to do it as he talked.
"Thank you." Roman smiled at Logan.
Logan shrugged. "Just showing you the most efficient way. I don't want you absolutely butchering Virgil's gift."
"Like I would do such a thing." Roman acted offended.
Patton sneezed loudly in the corner.
"Bless you." Thomas said.
