DODIE SONG ONE SHOT NUMBER TWO! I'm just going to do a bunch of one shots to Dodie songs, one after the other... Because I can. This particular song was requested by @EliEnjoysWriting

Roman's words echoed in Virgil's head.

He just wanted to be friends.

Virgil sighed and stared at his ceiling.

What a strange being you are

Did Virgil just want to be just friends? Roman meant so much to him.

God knows where I'd be without you

If you hadn't found me

Sitting all alone in the dark

Flashbacks to that night so long ago, there with Roman. Virgil in tears, his emotions out of control, himself a fucked up mess. But he had Roman, and that's what matters.

A dumb screenshot of youth

Watch how a cold broken teen

Will so desperately lean on a superglued human of proof

Roman seemed so... put-together. He seemed so much better than Virgil. He was Virgil's bit of proof, proof that everything might be alright.

What the hell would I be
Without you

But Roman wasn't as put-together as Virgil had originally thought. Virgil knew that now. But still, he was perfect in Virgil's eyes, and Virgil clung to him. Maybe a little too closely. Now Virgil's hurting and alone.

Brave face talk so lightly

Hide the truth

How could two words hurt so much? "Just friends."

It meant so much, and it hurt... so much.

Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates

So where do we begin

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win

Memories piling up, wonderful ones and not-so-pleasant ones, and everything in between. Roman's laugh, the way he talked, the way he dressed. His love for Disney, his tendency to break out into song every once in a while. How inseparable Virgil and Roman were... Or alternatively, how much Virgil clung to him.

I'm sick of losing soulmates

Won't be alone again

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win

Without Roman, what was Virgil? Was he anything at all other than alone? Pitiful and alone. Flawed, broken, imperfect. A fucked up excuse for a being, empty, nothing. He was nothing.

We will grow old as friends

I've promised that before

So what's one more

In our grey-haired circle waiting for the end

Friends. That was the word that Roman had used. Sounds like such a nice term... But not in that context.

Time and hearts will wear us thin

So which path will you take

Cause we both know a break

Does exactly what it says on the tin

Don't get attached. Good things don't last forever, so you might as well never get attached in the first place and save yourself the heartbreak. That was Virgil's takeaway. He had learned his lesson.

Never again.

What the hell would I be

Without you

Virgil let the tears start to form. He was empty, broken, a fucked up pitiful mess.

Brave face talk so lightly

Hide the truth

Virgil's eyeshadow was messed up and getting all over the tear-stained sleeve of his hoodie, but he didn't care.

Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates

So where do we begin

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win

I'm sick of losing soulmates

Won't be alone again

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win

They're still friends.

It may be hard to remain friends after everything they've been through, but he had to try.

He can't lose Roman again.

He can't.

I won't take no for an answer

I won't take no for an answer

I won't take no

No, I won't take no

Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates

So where do we begin

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win

Yeah, I'm sick of losing soulmates

Won't be alone again

I can finally see

You're as fucked up as me

So how do we win
