"Archer, you said that it didn't matter if you got uncovered!" Cosmo interrupted. "Why are you all so nervous?"

"Do you even know who we are?" Kelly asked, offended.

"A village of people with no wings. So what? It's fine."

"Do you know what your people did to us?"

"What do you mean?"

Kelly pulled Cosmo aside and pressed him against the wall of one house. A nail was popping out, dangerously close to him.

"Our ancestors used to dominate the world. Wingless used to be the norm. Then winged people came and deemed us defective," Cosmo's wings started peering out, and he struggled to keep them away from the nail. He nodded, his face horrified.

"And then they killed most of us," the girl continued. Cosmo's wings broke out.

"Aw, don't do this!" Kelly yelled. "Listen, if you're gonna use your wigs on us, then it won't be very effective."

"I wasn't going to hurt you," he made an excuse.

"Anyway," she moved on, interrupting Cosmo's explanations. He scowled from the pain; the nail had broken off a few of the feathers, and now they were lying on the ground in a white pile. "A few of the wingless survived and moved here. We are the new generation, and they're still trying to kill us. We have no place among them, and you have no place among us."

"Stop being so mean. I won't tell anybody, I promise."

"Aha, of course! You're a spy, aren't you? Get out, and if you say a word about it, I swear I'll murder you!" She shoved him away from the building. Calming down, he forced himself to worry again so he could look at his wings. A part of them was completely dyed red.

"Sorry," he heard. He looked for the source of the voice and noticed Archer, holding up one of his feathers.

"Nothing, it's not your fault. You didn't know the story," Cosmo turned around. "Come on, Willow. We need to talk, I have a thought."
