"So, Cosmo," the man sat down at his desk and gestured him to sit down too. "You're Ivy's brother, aren't you?"

"Yes."

"And, as you probably already know, your sister's wings are going to be clipped for starting a fire during a party over at her friend Janina's."

"It wasn't her. It was Janina."

"Janina didn't even touch the matches. But we're not here to discuss that. You do want to cancel the punishment, don't you?"

"Indeed," his wings, which had just started popping up, faded again.

"I have an offer for you. But first, let's discuss your illness."

Cosmo frowned.

"Well, if you ask me to describe it, it- it's like-"

"I know. Your wings pop out of nowhere when you aren't summoning them."

Cosmo nodded, laying back and wishing someone would close the window.

"It usually happens when I'm nervous," he added.

"Quite a peculiar case," Doctor Hunt shook his head. "Never heard of such things before."

"Me neither."

"But do you think you'd be fine if you went into the wild for a mission?"

"I think so. If I always wear clothing with holes, of course."

"Good. Now, my offer is simple. You go to Laora, live there for a bunch of days and report anything suspicious that happens. Keep an eye on everything, and if something feels wrong, be sure to report us as fast as possible."

"Right."

"And for that, we cancel your punishment," Doctor Hunt smiled, but Cosmo could see that he had forced a smile just to look better.

"Great, sure!"

"You should choose yourself a partner. I'd recommend Willow, the youngest child. The IQ tests from his entrance to school show he's pretty creative."

"He sure is," Cosmo laughed, also forcing it, even though he could as well be screaming in ecstasy.

"But would he agree?"

"Yes, I hope so. I'll ask him and let you know if he wants to. But I'm sure he will. He's always been the adventurous type," he stopped, realizing he was saying too much.

"Thank you," he ended briefly.

"You're welcome. I assume you'll do the job of telling your family everything yourself?"

"Surely," Cosmo stood up and approached the door. The doctor followed and let him through.
