Cosmo walked forward, mesmerized. It wasn't quite a desert; there were a few trees scattered, but overall, the landscape was dry and sandy. It couldn't be called a savannah, either. Rather, he decided to consider it a wasteland.

He found a relatively thick grain of sand that was soft enough to sleep on. Looking back at the forest, he assured himself that he'd be lucky enough to find a few berry bushes. It wasn't late yet; the sun was still high, so he headed off to the woods, hoping for success. He was only afraid of stumbling upon one of the village people. Compared to them, he was nothing; he'd be dead in a matter of seconds.

As Cosmo passed the vague and unclear border between the woods and the wasteland, he thought about what had just happened. He had been stupid, he decided. He wondered what was worse: stupidity or submissiveness. The thought of coming back and giving up made him feel bittersweet.

Submissiveness was worse, he hurriedly decided as he rushed to the first berry bush. Cosmo stopped in concern as he noticed a movement again. Now he knew who they really were.

He waited for the person to appear, his muscles getting ready to fight, his wings almost rising but then fading as he realized no one was coming. Still cautious, he approached the bush. Just because the village people hadn't come yet didn't mean they wouldn't. There was still a reason to be concerned.

Clearly, he was unsafe. He squinted at the sour taste of the raspberry, but kept eating. He had to satisfy the hunger that could come soon.

Suddenly he heard whispers. They hadn't left, they'd noticed him.

He listened in.

"Where's that little Willow boy?"

Willow. That name made something inside him pinch. He'd have to come back and tell Willow they were in danger. Just for the sake of survival.

"I don't know."

Cosmo gasped and ran off. He mentally questioned if they were chasing after him, but there was no time to look back. He needed a hideaway further in the desert. Didn't matter if he would get lost.
