He didn't sleep the whole night. At first he filled his mind with idiotic things: random calculations, reciting rhymes he remembered from primary school. As they drove into the city, he stared blankly at the lights. It was so different from what he had just seen. So busy, so alive, so human.
So uncomfortable.
Once Neva came along, it was the beginning of sunrise. He had lost all interest, but the sign reminded him of Ivy. She was probably proud of them, and that filled Cosmo with a new spirit.
Their city was next. The plains revealed a bit of the sun and the crimson sky, and Cosmo stared at it dreamily. His life would go back to normal.
But then he realized something. His life would be better than normal now, since he had understood the disease. Remembering the free fall, he thanked his wings for saving his life. What he thought was a huge problem turned out to be his advantage. Cosmo had never thought of it that way before. He smiled, then got sad again. He forced himself to keep a grin on, knowing that it could help.
Outside the window, the city was already flashing, much to his delight. The parking was near, and then he could get home and sleep calmly.
Willow was the first to jump out.
"Thanks!" He yelled. Cosmo crawled outside after him, nearly tripping.
He ran out of the parking, unable to wait, then jumped down the street. Willow could barely keep up.
Home was already near. It was the same as they had last seen it. With a few hardships he jumped over the fence, which resulted in a few insignificant bruises.
"Ivy!"
She came out, looking as tired as he did when he was in the car.
"Hello," she didn't look happy as she came closer and embraced him. "Cosmo... I'm sad to tell you this, but they tricked you."
"Who?"
"They still clipped my wings."
He gasped.
"Tell me you're not serious. Honestly."
"I am serious."
He turned around. Willow was standing there, looking like he didn't understand a single thing.
"So it was all in vain?"
She didn't say anything, just nodded.
