The village was as busy as it was when it first saw Cosmo. Now he was pressed against a building, crouching, as Archer was talking to someone. He tried to breathe quietly, but as he did, it always seemed to him that someone was approaching. And then he prepared to fight.
Archer peered over the corner. After he made sure everyone was there, he stepped in, followed by a skinny and small boy.
"This," he presented, "Is Kingsley."
Kingsley greeted with a nod and stretched his hand out to Cosmo.
"He brings me food," Archer explained as they started walking away from the village. Kingsley was walking a little far, not speaking much.
"Where do you live?" He finally asked once there was a break in the discussion. His voice was quiet.
"In the wasteland after the forest, you know?"
Ivy was looking down and kicking a rock around. No one paid attention to her, and she seemed to be perfectly fine that way.
They reached the wasteland. The evening was approaching, and Cosmo could use some sleep.
"Alright, I'll bring you something to eat tomorrow?" Kingsley asked.
"Sure."
He walked away, but Archer remained for a little. He sat down on the sand.
"So, how was it?"
"Good," Cosmo answered, looking at the sky. Then he turned back at Archer. "He's so skinny."
"I know, that's what helps him to steal."
"When did you meet?"
"We always knew each other."
"So he's like... Your best friend?"
Archer was silent for a while, thinking though the question. Cosmo's eyes sparkled in expectation.
"Well... No. He's one of my best friends, I guess. Used to be. But now? Now I don't know if I have any friends at all. Except for you, of course," he got up. "Alright, gotta leave, I guess."
"No," It flew out of Cosmo's mouth, and he couldn't even find time to regret it before the answer came.
"What?"
"Don't go!" He was slightly questioning his decision, but it wasn't enough to regret. "It's safer here."
"Fine," Archer sat back down. It was now the sunset; it didn't even impress Cosmo anymore. He was accustomed to the nature, living inside it.
Ivy was in a distance of around three meters from them, lying down with eyes wide open. She was facing the opposite direction from Cosmo. Willow was already long asleep.
