As I drove towards home, I cramped the AC on. It was so hot in here. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm so scared I started sweating.
I couldn't believe what just happened. Nothing bad happened, but it seemed that they were very close to being bad. I had to tell my dad. I had to tell him what that man said. If I didn't, I don't know what would happen. To me. To my mom. To Vee. I had to tell my dad.
Iz, come down. Please. I don't like seeing you like this. Stark said into my mind.
I laughed bitterly. You can't even see me, Stark. You don't know how I look like. So how can you possibly see me?
I meant that I don't like the way you're feeling right now. He said almost quietly. You're panicking and you're scared. I never want you to feel that way.
Damn it! Why did he always have to do this. He always does something that makes me fall for him even more than I already have.
I put walls around these thoughts. Okay. Thanks Stark. I'm sorry I was mean to you.
It's fine, Iz. I totally understand. You're scared. Somebody scared you.
I could actually feel his anger towards the situation. Feel his desperation. He wants to do something but he doesn't know how or what to do.
It's okay Stark. It's okay. I'm okay. I soothed him. I think I'm going to take Oliver on his offer to train me.
Four days ago. Oliver Tritan, hottest guy in school offered to train me. After a few nudges he confessed that he was Nephilim. And since I had no idea what I was doing or what to do in an emergency, he offered to help and train me. I told him that he should give me a few days to decide. And I think I'm going to say yes.
I don't know, Iz. He hesitated. I don't know if it's the right decision. Oliver has never talked to you and then suddenly he wants to train you for something.
Stark doesn't know that I'm a Nephil. He is totally in the blue about what I am. And I don't want him to know either.
It's okay, Stark. I'm pretty sure Oliver doesn't have any bad intentions. And if he does, I'll just figure out sooner or later, I said hopefully.
If Oliver does have bad intentions, I'll have to tell my dad. And then maybe my dad can train me. He is a fallen Angel after all. He knows everything. At least, he should know everything.
If you say so. Stark said wearily.
When I finally arrived home, I grabbed my dresses, got out of the car and looked everywhere around me. Good. Nothing was following me.
I walked to the doors of our flat and put in my key. The door slid open and I went side. I looked around as well, making sure I wasn't being followed again.
I'm being so paranoid.
I got into the elevator and pressed for the third floor. When I got there I went directly into the living room. I saw my dad working out in the living room. I had no idea why, we had a gym.
"Dad?" I asked as I put my dresses on the counter.
My dad got up from his push-ups and I saw the big black upside down V on his back. I always thought that it was a tattoo. But until recently, my parents told me those were scars. Scars of the angel wings he used to have. Scars he received after they got ripped out by the archangels and he was sent to earth.
"Iz, where were you?" He said angrily.
And then everything hit me. Like a huge wave of emotion. The biggest one was fear. I looked down at my dads bare feet while my eyes were swimming with tears. When I finally made myself look up into those furious black eyes, his eyes softened and concern and love filled them.
He hugged me and he rubbed my back, just between my shoulder blades. Just the way I always liked to be rubbed. He pressed me against his chest. "Baby girl, what happened?"
I let myself cry. I sobbed into his chest and I heard him mutter reassurances to me. When I finished crying, my dad walked me to the couch of the living room and he sat me down. He crouched in front of me, and looked up at me. "Princess, I want you to tell me what happened. I know you're scared about something. And I don't want my beautiful princess to feel scared. Ever. So please tell me what happened. I'll try to resolve this problem, Princess." His voice was filled with worry and concern it made me want to cry all over again.
But I didn't. I took in a shaky breath and told him my story. "Vee and I went dress shopping for the dance in two days. We had gotten a dress and I went to try it on. And when I was finished, I saw Vee talking to some man, and I know it wasn't Gavin. I didn't want to interrupt their conversation so I went to buy the dresses, and when I came back, Vee was gone." I wiped my nose with the tissue my dad brought me. He sat down right next to me and he motioned me to continue. "Since I didn't know where she was, and she turned off her cell, I just decided I would go back to the car by myself. I could drive myself home. And when I was walking through the mall, I felt a huge wave of... something hit me. It was so powerful, my nerves felt like they were tense. If that makes any sense.
"I stopped to look at what had caused this, and I saw a man inside a shoes store. He was so tall. He had black hair, that was pulled back. He had tan skin and something about him sent chills everywhere. I didn't know what to do so I just kept looking at him. And then he sensed me. He turned around and saw me. And I got so scared. I turned away and started walking as fast as I could away from that shop." I didn't tell him about Stark. I couldn't tell him. "Once I was outside I was surrounded by people and I walked around the block and into the public garages. I kept looking behind me and I didn't see anyone.
"So I just went to my car. Quickly threw my bags in the backseat and I got into reverse and then I stopped. The man was right in front of me. I was so scared. I didn't know what to do. So we just stayed still looking at each other. He looked like he was concentrating hard on something. But I don't know on what. But then he stopped concentrating and he mouthed, "tell your father we're back". That's all he said, and then he just... disappeared." I said.
I looked into my dads face.
He looked angry. But I could also tell he was scared. Scared. He grabbed my hand. And he took in a shaky breath. "I knew it would have to happen. But you're going to Maine in six days. It's dangerous for you here, Princess. And I cannot afford to let you be hurt. I don't know what is happening. But I swear that I won't ever let anything happen to you." He kissed my hand and he hugged me so hard, I thought I would be crushed.
"Okay, daddy." I whispered.
He pulled away from me and he kissed my tear streaked face. "It's okay, princess. I'm going to tell your mother, and you will be staying with some friends I know." He said. His voice was filled with pain. He didn't want to let me go. But he was always good at making split second decisions.
"Okay. Daddy?" I asked him.
He took in another shaky breath. "What Princess?"
"I love you. I wish I was as strong as you." I said.
My dad closed his eyes. "I'm not strong, Princess. You and your mother are my only strengths. Now come here. We have to get you to bed."
"Wait." I said. He stopped from getting up and looked at me. "Can I still go to the dance tomorrow?" I asked him
He sighed, but then he nodded. "I'll have some friends watch the dance. If anything happens I'll know. You can go." I nodded. "But c'mon. You're exhausted."
And I truly was exhausted. My head hurt, and my tears just made me even more tired.
My dad walked me to my room and he shut the light off once I was snuggled into bed.
Goodnight, Iz. You know I will try my best to protect you. Stark said.
Night, Stark. And thanks for always being there for me. I said sleepily.
Always.
