When I was younger I would sometimes see my dad in the living room. On many occasions.

One time was different, though. He sat down on his favorite chair. But he looked sad. His dark eyes would look at nothing in particular and I worried.

Something was very wrong..

My dad shouldn't be sad.

I went up to him slowly. As if he was a scared animal and I was trying to comfort it.

I sat beside him and laid my head against his arm. He didn't move or look at me. He would just stare at a random object for minutes on end.

I left him in silence for a few minutes. But eventually I got impatient and asked him what was wrong. Why was he sad.

He wrapped his arm around me and laid his cheek on top of my head and he sighed.. Seconds of silence then his response came.. "I'm just trying to get mommy to cheer up, baby girl."

I looked at him, confused.

Mommy was sad? I remember asking myself.

I asked him why she wasn't happy and he smiled a sad smile. "Because she wants to give you a little brother or sister and she can't."

I felt sad and asked him why not.

He looked away and I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or not. "The angels don't want it to happen." He whispered.

.........

I was happy. Finding out my parents are going to have another baby makes me happy. I've always wanted a baby brother or sister. Maybe both.

I looked at my parents with a smile. They really did look happy. My mom was glowing and my dad wouldn't stop staring at her as if she held the entire universe in her hands.

Despite seeing this I had a feeling.

I knew my dad was worried about something. He kept glancing at his watch and out the window. He smiled at me each time I caught him glaring at something that was just beyond my line of vision.

Something was going to happen. Every nerve in my body was humming with anticipation and knowledge that something really was going to happen. I just didn't know what.

I leaned back in my seat and I looked around the room. The last time I was here was horrible.

My grandma ended up being cremated. My mother made the decision while we were separated. I wasn't sure if we should bury her or cremate her but I was glad my mom made the decision. She was my grandma's daughter after all.

I grimaced when I realized I hadn't gone to school these last few days. I was definitely going to get a hell lot of homework.

I was glad my parents were here but I felt anxious.

Finally I got tired of just sitting around and I stood up from where I was sitting. Both my parents turned to look at me. My mom looked at me expectantly and my dad's face was expressionless. "Where are you going?" My mom asked.

I looked at the door and then back at her. "I don't know. It just feels like I need to do something. I don't know what but I have that feeling."

My mom looked at me for a second longer but then nodded. "Go ahead, honey. Do what you need to do but be careful."

I smiled at and nodded. I walked over to her and give her a hug and a kiss on her cheek. "Of course. I'll see you guys later, okay? Bye dad." I turned around and headed out the door.
