Dr. Lynn POV
My inner turmoil started the moment he moved his chair closer to her, but I waited to see what he would do. I should have told him to stop the second he grabbed her hands. Physical contact for someone like Kina can make for a precarious situation. Her ability to attach to people emotionally isn't like most people's. It takes a lot for her to let anyone in. I mean it makes sense that she would let him in, being her doctor and all. The issue I see here is what if he can't stay. She tends to have emotional breakdowns when the people she lets in walk away. No not like normal depression and sadness. We're talking self-harm, not eating for up to two weeks, the inability to move from her bed, not sleeping for days. All these things went through my mind, but I fear I may be too late. The second she wrapped her arms around him, I knew we were in too deep. I closed the blinds. I couldn't watch anymore. I fear I may have made a grave mistake. I must speak with Larry at once. Unfortunately I have to wait for Kina to leave now. I don't want to alarm her. After a few minutes, I spoke over the intercom to tell thim that the session is over. Once I heard Kina walk out. I told Larry to straighten up the room and come into my office at once.
Larry POV
I wonder what has Dr. Lynn so tight. I feel like we may have had a breakthrough today and she seems upset about it. Did she not see how Kina let it go today? All that hurt and guilt that Kina has been holding is starting to lift off her shoulders. What was she watching while this magical scene unfolded? I hurried to clean up because my curiosity had the best of me. When I walked into the observation room, Dr. Lynn frowned. I was slightly shocked, but waited to hear her out.
Dr. Lynn: JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING IN THERE HUH?!
L: What you mean Doc? Did you not see how much progress we made today?
Doc: Larry, Kina has attachment issues. I explained this to you with the Jordan situation! Physical contact initiated by someone other than Kina may cause her to become attached. Do you not see the problem here?!
L: Apparently not Doc! Please elaborate!
Doc: Larry, you can't be there for Kina in that way forever and the second she realizes that she will break just like she did with Jordan. When he walked away, she fell over the edge. Why do you think she had to take a leave of absence from work? She ceased to be able to function without him after telling him everything she had been through. He couldn't handle all of her baggage and walked away, taking what was left of that woman's sanity. I can't allow that to happen again.
L: Why would you think I would do that to her? She means a lot to me. I won't walk away from her EVER! Under all that pain and hurt there is an amazing human being. I want to know that person. I want her to be free from all this.
Doc: What about when she's done with therapy? When she no longer needs to be here? What about then? You won't be a part of her life anymore Larry! You are her therapist and that's it. You may care for her, but you're only thinking of now. So she'll form a dependency on you and she'll get better, but once it's said and done, then what?
L: Doc, I LOVE HER!
Doc: Larry you don't know her! You don't know everything that's she's been through and the things that she's done to herself because of it. What about the toll it's taken on the people around her? Are you ready for all of that Larry?
L: I'll get ready. Look Doc. I understand it won't be easy, but I will be whatever she needs. To see her like this, plagued by nightmares and memories, hurts me and it's not for no reason. I realize the second that she put her arms around me and chose to face her demons how strong she can be. I fell in love with her spirit today and I will do anything to make sure she can keep fighting.
Doc: Professional life and personal relationships must remain separate. It's a rule in this office. If you push this line, I will have no choice but to remove you from my project.
L: Then remove me! But I will still be there for her.
Dr. Lynn was surprised to hear Larry say this. After beating out numerous other applicants to get in the program, she would think that he'd have more reverence in regard to the opportunity. He must really love her she thought. After thinking on the situation further she had one question for Larry.
Doc: What if she will never be able to love you back Larry?
Larry paused with his mouth open. He had every intention of firing back right away at anything Dr. Lynn would throw at him, but her question made him have to think. Could he love her in that way and never have his feelings returned? Would his patience wear thin one day, thin enough for him to become fed up and walk away?
L: Knowing what I know about her, I don't believe I could ever walk away from her. Enough if she will never love me back. I will be her best friend for the rest of my life if I have to.
Dr. Lynn looked into Larry's eyes, seeing that he meant every word. She sighed to herself.
Doc: Very well then Larry. I see you've made your choice. I have made a choice as well. You are.....
