"Would you please cover for me tonight? Just this once!" Nanhee begged, her hands gripping mine tightly.
I shook my head, "no".
"Please" She pleaded some more, "Its an emergency".
"You're going to the night club to meet that weirdo aren't you?" I narrowed my eyes at her.
She bit her lip before nodding. "This will be the last time".
"That's what you said the last time mate" I laughed, getting off of my chair.
"Please Ji, I'd do anything in return".
"Anything?" I raised a brow.
"Anything!" She confirmed.
"Alright then," I sat back down, "I'll hold you to that".
"Great! I love you" She leaned forward to give me a short hug before exiting the scene.
I sank into the cushion. Blowing a few strands of hair off my face, I watched the rest of the staff leave, leaving me alone with Hyun Woo at the station.
"Hyun Woo-ah " I called out to him and he stood up immediately, his eyes focused on mine.
"Yes, officer"
"go home" I smiled.
He swallowed before shaking his head, "no ma'am, I'll just-"
"Yah! You don't have to babysit me" I sighed, straightening up a little, rolling my shoulders.
"Ma'am I-" he started only to be cut short once again.
"Go home and get some rest
You need it." I stood up, "I'm only covering for a friend, I'll be fine"."I'm sorry, ma'am but I'd prefer to stay back" he said softly.
I stared at him for a few seconds, narrowing my eyes until he looked down at his feet. "Suit yourself".
Grabbing the files on Nanhee's table, I walked over to mine. It had only been thrity minutes that rolled by which felt like hours as I sat there, flipping through pages, sorting out records and entering information into the system.
A gentle knock on the door grabbed my attention, making me shift my eyes from the papers before me to the person who just stepped into the station.
Hyun Woo quickly stood up from his seat to greet the tall man in his forties who had stepped in.
Brown hair, heavy shoulders, neatly ironed uniform and droopy hooded eyes- he was the superintendent of police. His face was littered with scars from old hunts, which became much more evident than they already were as he approached my sitting form.
I got off my seat quickly to greet the superior with a voice sincere and dutiful.
A small smirk played on his lips as he walked closer and closer, making me take a step back.
This man was my immediate superior, which meant I had seen him a few times before but didn't know him all too well personally. Most of our encounters started with a curt greet and ended with him watching creepily as I was always quick to leave.
The discomfort poured into my veins with every step I took, to distance myself from him.
"Ji Yeon-ah" he grinned.
He reeked of alcohol and cigarette. The odor made my face scrunch up in disgust until my back hit the book shelf.
I moved away before he could trap me against it.
"Is there anything you need," I swallowed, "sir?" I added.
"Yes, you" he laughed.
"What the f-" I stopped. What was he even talking about?
I looked over at Hyun Woo, glad that he was there and I wasn't the only one here.
"Oh" the man looked over at the boy I had my eyes on.
"You-" he started, his body almost fell over to the side if his hand didn't find purchase on the table next to him, "-are the constable aren't ya?".
"Yes sir"
"Get your nasty self out of here" he commanded.
Hyun Woo looked over to me, unsure of what to do, confusion clear in his eyes.
I nearly facepalmed before rolling my eyes, mouthing a small "go", not wanting to get the boy in trouble.
I could handle this drunkard on my own.
With a nod, the boy left hesitantly. It was only when I felt the man take another step forward that I realized I had no plan to execute.
I couldn't even kick him in the balls because clearly, I did not want to loose my job.
"You know who I am right?" I tried my standard card.
"Yes" he laughed.
"My dad can rid you off this badge" I pointed at the star on his chest, which hung loosely onto his black uniform.
"Oh baby " he took another step ahead, "let's keep this off records, shall we?"
"Please don't make me punch you in the face" I brought a hand up to cover my nose, trying my best to not puke at the smell.
Another step forward and there were only a few inches separating him from me. With our bodies close to touching and with him being all I could see and sense, I managed to hear a voice call out from the far end.
"Excuse me!"
This time the voice was much more familiar. The depth and girth with which it bounced off the walls had the man step away from me, leaving me a window to escape.
I was quick to walk towards the source of the voice which called out for the second time, "Is anybody there?".
"Yes!" I answered. This time, I almost knew who the voice belonged to.
Taking quick strides, I only stopped when my eyes met familiar black ones. An involuntary smile split across my face at Taehyung's unexpected arrival. I'd never been happier to see him.
"Who are you?" the officer's question broke the silence.
Taehyung only shifted his gaze, a playful look stayed on his face as he spoke.
"I found this on the sidewalk" he casually pulled a gun out of his belt, bringing it across to the front, "thought i should surrender it."
A smirk formed on his lips as he turned to me before continuing, "we don't want people to get their hands on something that doesn't belong to them" he looked at the superior as he rose a brow questioningly, "do we?".
