Chapter 10 ~ Not What I Meant

A little wolf stood before the Akatsuki, baring its teeth playfully at them. His eyes were violet; light seemed to radiate from them. Half a minute later, still no one had moved. At last, Sasori could not resist. He sauntered up to the little canine, eyes shining.

"Aww," he whispered, holding his hand out. The little wolf pup padded up to him and licked it. The puppeteer melted with adore. Behind him, all the members stood shocked.

"Sasori..." Kisame began.

"...Has a soft spot for dogs?!" Deidara finished. "I never knew, un!!!"

The members quieted down when Pein dropped to one knee, bowing his head to the wolf pup.

"Hikaru-sama. We are honoured to be in your presence." From Sasori's lap, the wolf - now named - turned to the leader. He dipped his head.

"No need for the formalities, Akatsuki-leader-san. Hikaru will do." He split into a toothy grin that matched his high pitched, squeaky voice. It was clear that the wolf was very young. Sasori played with his fur. Pein rose.

"If you insist," he said. "So I assume that Hitomi-sama has given her consent for you to join our ranks?"

"Yes. Mother seemed to be happy with the deal. Thanks for letting me in, Akatuski." Hikaru sniffed the air. "Is someone injured?" he asked. Faces grew grim.

"Yes. We have one member who just finished receiving surgery and has yet to wake up. The one who performed the surgery is also resting, exhausted from chakra use." Hikaru dipped his head.

"I will see to speeding the girl's waking process up." He knows it's a girl...

"I- I'll come with you," Sasori muttered. Hikaru turned to him.

"Sure!" he chirped. "You probably can't beat me, though!" The pup leaped - and was gone. Jaws dropped once more. Sasori sighed.

"Nope, can't beat you." He headed down the hallway, admitting defeat.

Hikaru landed in Konan's room, next to a sleeping-

I knew it.

"Rin-chan." He leaped onto the bed, all the fur on his spine rising when he realized that...

"Wh-What the heck, wolfie?" a female teen asked, horrified. She had messed up blue hair and honey-coloured eyes. Hikaru did the only thing he could - he tucked his tail between his legs and dropped his head.

"M-My sincere apologies, miss. I was only checking on Rin-chan." 

"Oh? You know her? Who are you-" She stopped short and gasped when Hikaru looked up, straight into her eyes, with a friendly tilt of his head. My eyes must have told the story, Hikaru thought. Always my eyes, haha. "M-My apologies, Oh Great Hikaru-sama! I didn't know! Oh my, I'm so sorry you need to see me in this state!" She scrambled up, flustered, but the pup put a paw gently on her chest.

"Rest. No formalities are needed. No worries, I still have the innocence of a kid. This stuff doesn't bother me yet!" He bared his teeth at her in a playful grin. Konan smiled and lay down.
