She reached out and held the stars

Looking up that night alone

They shimmered in her grasp
They liquefied, streaks of silver falling from her open hands
They flickered in her clasp
A calming tide, draping silver over all the sleeping lands

A dream begotten; her fears forgotten
Caught in the magic of the moment

A glimmer of hope, so many little wishes
All caught in her hands

The A-rank shinobi was walking cautiously along the forest grounds.

She leapt from her perch in the tree, no more than a flash of rippling blue mixed in with the rare streak of gleaming rainbow string.

A wooden mask, resembling a sabertooth tiger's face, stared unflinchingly at the rogue's back. A navy cloak swished, stars and shimmering rainbow streaks catching the sun's rays.

Without a word, she pulsed chakra into her hand and drove it into his back.

The ninja crumpled, unconscious.

She touched him, and he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Then, she herself disappeared in a breath of sparkles.

He crept up weakly to the place where the kunoichi was just standing.

Fluttering in her place was pink glitter, making reflections on his exhausted face as they drifted onto the forest ground silently.

The colour of jam, he thought as his own body gave out and he fell to the soft grass.

The last thing Gaara remembered was an explosion of white feathers and getting pulled into someone's warm body, held by strong arms. A soft voice.

"You're going to be okay," that soft voice told him.

Rin held true to her promise of killing only those who would only do much worse otherwise.

And even then, she intended to make it as painless as possible.

She hummed as she roamed Konoha's streets, feeling proud of herself as she thought of the little boy she had helped a few days ago.

He had been hurt badly.

"But he was so adorable!" She could not hold back a grin.

The kunoichi grew silent as she fell back into her thoughts.

Of all people to see her in her disguise, the little redhead had.

She hoped it was as foolproof as she originally thought it would be. She hoped only Minato-sensei would know for as long as she wished it a secret.

"I saw a fairy," little Gaara had told her when he had gotten his strength back. "I couldn't see her face, but she was still really really pretty - and super awesome!"

Rin giggled at the sweet memory.

"I wonder if I should use a more kid-friendly mask..."

"Obito!" The Uchiha almost fainted when Rin caught up to him and draped an arm over his shoulder.

"G-G-G-Good aftermorning, R-Rin!"

He turned even redder when she laughed.

"What is an 'aftermorning'?"

AHHHHHHH, he screeched inwardly.
