It was not supposed to come that fast.
She was not supposed to leave so soon.
She was supposed to have three months...
...not three days.
That was what Rin thought as she stood facing her newfound friends. They were a black and red, dangerous force in front of the hideout.
They were a force dangerously close to murdering their Medical Ninja for leaving them.
It were not as if she were unfazed. Beneath her impassive pretense, she felt as if her heart would splinter and break.
"We have the birds," she said quietly, referring to the hummingbird that Kakuzu had given her for her 15th. "Use the birds for communication."
"Yeah," Kakuzu mumbled. "We'll keep in touch."
"Don't waste half your salary on food."
"We won't," Kisame promised quietly.
The medic tilted her head, the slightest bit of amusement trickling into her chocolate orbs.
"I somehow doubt that." That brought small smiles back onto the others' faces.
"You better not break that f*cking Fourth Hokage and your old teammate's necks the moment you see them," Hidan grumbled.
"Yeah, after all the trouble we went through to let them leave alive," Konan chipped in.
"Yeah, well..." Rin trailed off. She looked up with the tiniest smirk. "No guarantees."
"You sure you'll be okay without us?" Nagato asked with slightly raised eyebrows.
"You're like that annoying little sister who just has to get her way," Konan teased.
"Again, no guarantees... but I'll call if I need help, I promise."
"Make sure you discover some new ways to go bang, hmm." Deidara's sapphire eyes met hers and softened. "Next time I see you, you better show me some new tricks."
"Back at you," Rin said. "You're the expert."
"Don't forget to make it rain every now and then." Nagato had taught her his jutsu, reminding her without truly saying it that she still could feel a little bit of Amegakure whenever she needed. "It's refreshing sometimes, you know?"
"I see you learned to make puns," the kunoichi commented lightly. Her eyes softened. "I will. I'll make it rain over Konoha whenever I'm in a bad mood."
She glanced hesitantly over to Itachi, who had not made even one input. He met her eyes grudgingly and held them, his onyx depths fierce and hurt. The Uchiha just pouted at her.
"Look, I-" Her voice cracked, and she dropped her gaze to the sandy ground.

Rain plummeted on them. It seemed to get heavier, just like the atmosphere.
Obito watched, off to the side, too scared to disrupt the moment with his voice.
Just what happened between Rin and these guys?
He knew it may remain a mystery to him for as long as he lived.
Then, someone knocked him out.
