Chapter 43 ~ Transitions

I, for one, had a pretty terrible one.

But anyways! Here we go with the story!

Kakashi glanced over to Rin.

She had been sitting, for four hours now, in a show of perfect discipline. Not a muscle had moved.

Her chocolate eyes, which only ever looked alive when they were on missions nowadays, were the only things that showed she was not caught in a Genjutsu. They darted around, alert and wary, watching, waiting.

And suddenly, she was gone.

He jumped up to join the action, but there was none to partake in.

Somehow, just like that, his old teammate had downed all the enemies.

The mission was over.

"Done already?" Minato asked, looking up from his paperwork.

"Sensei~" Obito whined. "When do we get A-ranks?!"

"That one was supposed to be a challenging B-rank..." Minato looked their reports over and frowned. "Kakashi? Obito? You two say that you don't know how you caught the enemies? Rin's says... 'we caught them'?!"

Obito looked sheepish.

"Well, you know, we'd waited for four hours so I thought I'd take a quick scout. When I came back, the enemies were all tied up. Who knows!"

Kakashi looked flustered.

"Y-Yondaime-sama... I really don't know. I blinked, and they were caught."

With no one else left to ask, Minato turned to the medic of the group. The medic-turned-ace, that is.

She shrugged.

"I used a jutsu and caught them." It was obvious that that was all she would reveal.

Minato sighed and rubbed his temples.

"Minato-sensei?"

Called man looked up to gaze into Rin's chocolate orbs. They were troubled but determined.

"Rin. Have a seat," the Yondaime Hokage invited.

"Sensei, I know I've been secretive. I'm really sorry."

He smiled at her.

"It's okay; many jutsus are not supposed to be spread around. I get that. You grew a lot stronger, you know."

That recognition made her insides tingle with nostalgia, and Rin dropped her gaze.

"Yeah," she mumbled. Thanks to them.

"Are you okay? Did I say something?"

"I'm alright." She looked up. "Actually, I have a request."

Minato nodded, prompting her.

"In addition to working with Team Minato, I'd like to do some missions on my own. Harder ones."

For the first time in a while, Rin did not get the reaction she expected.

"Yeah. I figured you'd ask."
