Chapter 6 ~ Welcome Home

I hope that everyone is enjoying their week! I'm back with a new chapter! For those who have not yet noticed, the Akatsuki are pretty much all teens. Just thought you might want to know that. On we go!

"It's been a while, Rin," Itachi murmured quietly. I missed you.

"Yes. It's good to see you again." The Uchiha felt guilt stab him as he saw the disappointment swimming in Rin's chocolate orbs. I wish I could tell you.

"I know you're wondering why I'm here-"

"It's fine. I know you have your reasons, 'Tachi-nii," Rin interrupted, not meeting his eyes.

Rin tried not to let her disappointment in her friend show. She knew she failed when she saw the hurt in Itachi's eyes. She could not bring herself to meet them as they continued to converse.

I feel betrayed.

"Report," Pein commanded.

"Mission successful. Target ninja was eliminated. However, she was very strong. We both sustained injuries. The money is all here," Sasori said, reaching into his cloak and pulling out a wad of bills. Pein eyed the pair.

"Deidara, anything to add?"

"No, un. The mission went quite smoothly, with the bumps we originally expected. They were just a tiny bit stronger than we imagined, hmm."

"Thank you. Deidara, you are dismissed. Sasori, stay behind." The shinobi bowed and each obeyed their command. When the door closed, Pein pierced Sasori with an intense gaze. "Sasori..."

"I-I'm fine, Leader-sama. Thank you," the redhead muttered. However, he did not look the part, face pale and sweaty. How the blond didn't notice beats me.

"You certainly do not look like it," Pein observed. In front of him, the puppet master swayed precariously.

"N-No, I'm fine. I'll be on my way to my room, if that's okay with you. I just need some rest."

"I doubt you'll make-"

Sasori collapsed.

Rin felt a small tug on her conscience. It grew bigger and bigger...

Oh, here goes. Three, two, one...

She disappeared.

"Rin, I'm-" Itachi's sentence cut off abruptly when he found his friend gone.

...

"Wh-What the heck?!"

Pein gave a shout of surprise. Sasori had fallen faster than he anticipated. The leader jumped up from his chair to catch him-

-but found someone already there.

He could not hold in a gasp of bewilderment. Chestnut hair was in his face. Stumbling backwards, he watched his captive catch her captor right before he hit the floor.

"Oh my," the girl called Rin murmured, eyes wide. "Sasori!"

"H-How did you-" he began.

"Can we talk about this later? Sasori needs immediate medical attention," the girl interrupted. He heard the urgency in her voice. Does she genuinely care?
