Toast lifted his head as the screen of his phone lit up faintly. The room was pitch black and the only other light was a clock with read 3:36 am. Toast turned his phone on and fumbled to open his messages to read the text he had gotten. It was two words, two simple words from an unknown number. The text read "I'm back"

Toast turned his phone off and groaned. He had no idea who that was and he was way too tired to think. He put his phone back down on the table and stood up, wobbling slightly as he walked back to his bed. Toast pulled up the black sheets and laid on his side, his eyes closed as sleep consumed him.

As sunlight filtered through Toast's window, he moved around slightly, mumbling incoherently. The clock in his room read 9:13 am, and there were no notifications on his phone. Toast pulled the sheets away and stood up, walking over to his closet. He pulled out a clean white shirt and black vest, along with a clean pair of dark gray pants. Toast got dressed and fixed himself some cereal before looking at the sketches of paper from last night. He took the top paper and turned it over, covering the stack of papers. Toast walked to the door and walked outside, grabbing his bag before he left. Toast walked to a cafe nearby and opened his computer. He looked through some of the files he had saved of possible ghosts to investigate for his books, and he decided to go to a cafe to research them. He had heard whispers of a foreign girl haunting multiple homes in a nearby city, and Toast decided to look some stuff up on her. Toast was deep in his research, and ended up spending two hours before he paused, ordered a tea and then left the cafe. Toast then went back home, putting his computer aside as he instead got his pen and paper. After an hour of sketching, he heard a knock at the door. Toast sighed, putting down his pen as he got up to open the door. He brushed a strand of his hair away as he reached out for the doorknob, and when he opened it, he stopped dead in his tracks.
