"Johnny! We need to go out and get dinner food for tonight!" Ghost cried, frantically brushing his messy brown hair to the side. At 10 that morning, Ghost had remembered that they had forgotten to buy the most important thing: food.
"Okay, okay, let me just do this one thing sir." Toast replied, putting a few books from the table back on the shelves. As soon as Toast was done, he put his shoes on and brushed his hair a bit, as Ghost waited impatiently. Toast then went outside with Ghost and the two got in the car and drove away. They went to the store and bought food for that night, such as hamburgers. They bought chips and cookies and soda, and a few other snacks. They had prepared to watch some scary movies, such as Scream and The Exorcist. Buying some extra candy while out, they returned with multiple bags of food and drink. They set up bowls of food and chips, almost as if they were throwing a party, which they weren't. They both ate lunch together, talking about what costumes they hoped to see and how many children there might be that night. They watched one episode of this game show that was on before they both finished eating.
Once they turned the TV off, Toast continued to type up notes for his books and doodle images for the book while Ghost decorated some more. Ghost wasn't loud at all, and Toast was able to fully concentrate on his book and get a few page drafts done. He typed away, not even paying attention to any noises or sounds outside. He heard a small, tiny thud around 5 pm, but dismissed it as he continued typing. Toast got up once to get himself a drink, but didn't check on Ghost outside.
At 6 o'clock in the evening, Toast put his computer away and walked outside, calling Ghost's name, with no answer. He walked along one side of the house and to the back, but there was no sign of Ghost.
As he walked to the left side of the house, he saw two decorations lying limp on the floor, and Toast's eyes widened in fright. He grabbed the two decorations and stuffed them away, then hurried inside and put the scary movies away. He instead decided to play Halloween comedies, as he decided to look for Ghost some before nightfall. He walked around the neighborhood for nearly an hour until he saw trick or treaters, when he then ran home and began to hand out candy. At first, there were very few kids out. But as the night grew darker, more and more kids came by.
The night slowly passed, and Toast saw a multitude of costumes: witches and zombies and fairies and mermaids, and of course the odd unique one, like a horror movie character such as GhostFace. The children all cheerfully greeted him and cheerfully bid him goodbye, as he had decided to stay in his typical attire of a dress suit, vest, and dress pants. All the parents would nod and smile at him as they passed by with their children at their sides. He could remember going trick or treating with his adoptive parents as a child, how his mother would smile at him as she watched him bound from door to door. He silently wondered if he would ever lead a child around on Halloween, but he soon shook his head at the thought. He didn't really want to marry ever again, and having a child was the very last thing he wanted. Granted, he did love children, but after the passing of his wife, the thought had been driven out of his mind. Shaking his head, Toast focused on the smiles and laughter of the passing children, fondly looking back on his own memories as they passed.
At around ten that night, the trick or treaters started decreasing in number. Toast still had two whole bowls left, so he started giving out more and more candy to each kid they came by. Children thanked him each time he gave them a handful of candy, and Toast smiled at each of them as they walked off. A few high school age kids passed by as well, laughing and talking as they went from door to door.
At midnight, Toast locked the door and turned in for the night, turning on a movie as he made himself dinner. He fixed himself a hamburger and some chips, then grabbed a soda as he settled down on the couch. As he turned the TV on, he heard what sounded like a scream in the distance. Shrugging it off as typical Halloween banter, Toast watched his movie and ate his dinner, wishing nothing more than for Ghost to be there with him.

Toast awoke at ten in the morning, and immediately made himself some tea. As he stood by the kettle, he turned the TV on, and was soon rendered speechless by the story playing on the news.
An entire count of eight bodies had been found last night, and five more had been discovered in the morning; all believed to be the work of the terrifying Jimmy Casket. All of the victims were men or women older than 19, which police had deemed to be his M.O.
In the two years he had terrorized the town, he had never once killed a child. That was one thing people were grateful of, that he never harmed a child. Not many serial killers did, which was something many people in the town were grateful for. Still, the murders had rocked the town, as there hadn't been a murder in weeks. People had started thinking that maybe Jimmy Casket had vanished, but now people were horrified to discover they were wrong.
Toast turned the TV off and drank his tea solemnly, looking out the window. And in that moment, Toast truly wondered, could Ghost be connected to the murders?
