"Sir?"
Toast asked, walking around the apartment. Toast had just woke up, and he figured Ghost had already woken up. "Over here." Ghost replied airily, raising a hand into the air from his spot on the couch. Toast cocked his head and walked over to the couch, sitting down right next to Ghost. "How are you sir?" Toast asked, looking at the TV, on which a movie was playing.
"I'm good." Ghost replied, nodding. "Have we gotten a new case yet? It's been over 4 weeks since the last one." Toast laughed softly and shook his head. "You just need to wait sir. We've just started out, wait a few months, we'll start getting attention."
"But you know how impatient I am." Ghost replied, pouting slightly for effect. Toast laughed, a smile spreading across his face. "Yes, I do know how impatient you are, I've known you for over 20 years now. I can remember when we were kids, and your birthday party was in four hours, and you got so impatient you rang me and asked me to come over then because you couldn't wait another minute!" Ghost laughed. "Yeah, I was super impatient as a kid. I'm surprised my mom put up with me." "Well your mum is a very kind and patient woman, so that's probably why. Plus, she was mature for her age if I recall correctly; she acted much older than she was when we were kids." "Yeah well, she became a mom, and a single mom at that, at 23. She kinda had to grow up rather quickly." Ghost replied. "Plus, she lost her real son at 28. Her tragedies made her grow up." Toast smiled sadly, looking at the floor.
"Well, at least our childhood tragedies didn't make us grow up too fast." Toast said, looking at Ghost, who nodded in agreement.
"Oh, I just remembered!" Toast announced, standing up and walking over to a box that laid on the table. He grabbed a few photographs and walked back to the couch.
"Remember this sir?" Toast asked, handing Ghost a photograph that had been taken back on Toast's 22nd birthday. In the photo, both Ghost and Toast were laughing, and they both seemed genuinely happy. Ghost smiled softly as he looked at the photo, and Toast grabbed another photo that had been taken on Toast's 15th birthday, back in December of 1999. "And remember this one?" Toast asked, handing Ghost the photograph. Ghost smiled at the photo. Toast stood with a party hat on his head, confetti all over him as 13 year old Ghost stood in the background, confetti in his hand.
"I've got to get more frames for these." Toast said, putting the photographs down; he had just been looking at a photo from 1997, when Toast was 13 and Ghost 11. Ghost picked up the stack of photos and began flipping through them as Toast walked to the kitchen to grab a piece of paper. Toast grabbed his shopping list and jotted down 'picture frames' onto it. "Hey sir, do you want anything from the store?" Toast asked. Ghost didn't answer. "Sir?" Toast asked, turning his head. Ghost was still sat on the couch, completely still. Toast walked over, and stopped dead in his tracks.
Ghost was staring blankly at a photo from their reunion trip; one with her in it. Suddenly, the photograph fell from his hands, and Ghost still sat frozen.
"Sir? Sir are you alright?" Toast asked frantically, leaping forward. Ghost was frozen, then, suddenly, his eyes started to change. His irises grew smaller in size and began to turn red, and he started shaking.
"Sir!" Toast cried, reaching both arms out to grab Ghost. Toast wrapped both arms tightly around Ghost, who was starting to shake violently. "Sir! Sir please calm down, calm down sir, this isn't you!" Toast cried frantically, squeezing the trembling Ghost in his arms. Ghost began incoherently mumbling, the tips of his chocolate brown hair becoming lighter.
"Sir, sir this isn't you! Snap out of it sir, you're better than this, you can control it! Sir calm down!" Toast cried over and over, holding Ghost as tightly as he could as Ghost kept on shaking. Tears began to fall down Ghost's cheeks as his mumbling became faster. The ends of his hair turned back to chocolate brown, but his eyes were still half red. Ghost's breathing became rapid as he continued to shake violently. Toast quickly ran to the kitchen and began to make some tea for Ghost, as Ghost rolled back and forth on the floor, tears streaming down his face. His mumbling became faster and faster, and he began to sweat. Toast ran back and hugged him tightly. "It's ok sir, it's ok, nothing can hurt you. Sir I'm here, I'm here with you sir, please calm down." Toast repeated.
"Her, her her her her her.... Her her her her her." Ghost mumbled, his eyes slowly turning completely red. The kettle went off, and Toast quickly made a cup of tea before running back to Ghost, who was laying on the floor. Toast lifted him up and poured the tea into his mouth, and Ghost quickly froze. Then, his eyes rolled backwards and he fell to the floor, unconscious. Toast picked Ghost up and set him down on his own bed, then poured more tea into his mouth before putting a blanket over him. Toast then laid next to him, keeping one arm over Ghost to try and calm him. Toast laid there for a solid hour until he began to hear Ghost snoring softly. Toast stood up and retrieved the photo Ghost had looked at, then quickly stashed it somewhere Ghost would never find it. Toast made another cup of tea for when Ghost woke up, and then resorted to sorting photographs to keep himself busy until Ghost woke up.Oooooh an update
