"You must be the fiancé. He had some extensive internal bleeding and had a piece of metal lodged in his face," the doctor started but stopped when he saw me start to crumble. I held onto Austin and Evan for balance.
"That being said he is fine and awake and functioning. He's been asking for you. We ask that there be one visitor in the room besides you at a time," the doctor said. I breathed a sigh of relief and hugged Austin and Evan.
"Is he clear to tour? See we're in a band and it's kind of our job," Phil said. I tried my best not to sigh but it just happened.
"Yes but only if he sites in a chair or on a stool while onstage and he must stay on the bus during off days. There should be someone to watch after him at all times," the doctor said as a disheveled nurse came over.
"Is there an angel here?" She said. I nodded.
"Mr ashby keeps asking for you and refuses to sleep until he sees you. He's tried to get up twice now could you come with me?" She asked. I smiled sadly.
"Sounds like my ashby cat," I said starting to follow her down the long corridor. I could hear his heart monitor and it sounded so faint from where I stood behind the door. I walked in to find him laid there with his eyes closed and bandages all over his stomach and his arm in a sling. I sighed and I could tell he knew I was here. His heart monitor quickened and I grasped his cold hand.
"Hey baby," he said horsely.
"Hi," I said hearing my voice crack. He smiles but winced and opened his eyes. "Took quite a blow to the head," I said wanting desperately to smooth his hair away from the giant gash that ran from his forehead to his cheek on the right side.
"Yeah, you could say that," he said trying to move to sit up.
"Take it easy," I said telling him it was okay to rest.
"I'm just glad you're here," he said pulling me closer. By now I could practically sit on his bed.
"You were in surgery for quite a while," I said. Quietly finally succumbing to the whim to touch his hair. I gently moved it from his eyes.
"Five hours the doc said. I coded twice," he said with a sloppy smile.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again," I said sternly
"No promises," he joked. There was a knock at the door and shortly after Austin strolled in.
"He buddy," Austin said in the same tone of voice I had been speaking in.
"Hey dude," Alan responded.
"How ya feeling?" Austin asked probably because he didn't know what else to say.
"Holy. And look we got matching scars bro," Alan said pulling down his scrubs to show the top of the scar that ran down the front of his body.
"Wicked," Austin said.
"We are just glad you're okay. The doc said you are clear for tour and hopefully he will let you go home tomorrow," I said filling in the awkward silence.
"That's great," Alan said getting tired. When I walked in his nurse started a morphine drip and I knew he'd fall asleep eventually.
"Alright bud. I'm going to go. The rest of the guys will stop by tomorrow okay?" Austin asked. Alan nodded.
"Baby they won't let me stay either. You're in the icu and technically I'm not supposed to be back here," I said getting upset at the thought of leaving him here all by himself.
"It's okay angel. Go home and rest. I'm sure you're tired," Alan said. I was quite tired actually.
"Listen I'm not going far I'm going to stay at Aaron's so I'll be close," I said messing with his hair one last time.
"Okay babe,"'Alan said with a yawn. I leaned down hoping for just a peck on the lips but he kissed me like he'd never kissed me before. It was like this near death experience had made him crazy.
"Damn babe," I said with a giggle. He smiled and I left to walk back out to the waiting room. It wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. Seeing him all wrapped up in bed like a mummy wasn't particularly an easy sight to see either however. Aaron immedately rushed toward me and hugged me. I smiled and hugged him back.
"He's speaking but he goes in and out. There is a lot of morphine in him right now," I said filling in the guys as we walked out of the hospital.
"Well at least he is alive!" Phil said.
"Thank god for that. I am not ready to bury anyone else any time soon," Tino said stealing a look at Evan. his comment didn't seem to faze her.
"Oh uh guys i'm going to stay with Aaron in hopes of being close if anything should come up. That's okay with you guys right?" I said turning to face Austin.
"Sure but if anything were to come up you would call us right away?" He asked. I nodded and he and Evan both gave me a hug before heading for the car. Aaron smiled and took my hand as we walked to his.
"I'm so tired!" I said with a yawn. I was beginning to get heavy eyes and really needed to sit down so to have his hand in mine helping me keep steady was a blessing.
"I'll get you home soon. You can have the bed. NO PROTESTS!" he said. I sighed but didn't say anything because i knew arguing with him would litereally get me no where. As soon as i was seated in the car i was out like a light.
