This Fan Fiction is written in tribute of the CW Network's The Originals and follows the imaginary exploits of Elijah Mikaelson portrayed by Daniel Gillies in the television show. This fiction is for entertainment purposes only and all characters referenced from The Originals or from the parent show The Vampire Diaries are the property of the CW Network and others. All other characters including the Dragonetti Vampires and their associates are my own work. Picture Credit for the Cover Page is Unknown. This novel contains the musings of this author who is very appreciative of the work done by all the cast and crew that have made The Originals by far the best show on network television.
The reader must disregard certain parts of Season 4, Episode 13, as this work assumes an alternate resolution to The Hollow storyline and follows the exploits of Elijah Mikaelson prior to landing in New Orleans, and after The Hollow is defeated. All other presentations in Season 4 stand, including the end of the relationship known as Haylijah. This work was finished prior to Season 5 and as such, Season 5 is not part of this storyline.
In this alternative work, rather than placing The Hollow into the four Mikaelson siblings and splitting up the family, the powerful witches Freya Mikaelson, Vincent Griffith, Davina Claire, and Bonnie Bennett merged their powers together and as a powerful coven, removed The Hollow from Hope Mikaelson and placed The Hollow's energy into four magical urns, sealing them for all eternity with an unbreakable spell. Each witch then took one urn and buried it in a secret location far from the other three urns, cloaking the urns in more magical spells to keep them hidden from any that would seek to resurrect The Hollow. Three of the urns were kept on Earth but due to the ingenuity of Niklaus Mikaelson in conjunction with his sister, Freya, her urn was hidden inside a exploration satellite that was about to be launched into deep space, never to return to Earth again. If that did not keep The Hollow from resurrecting again, then nothing would.
With the defeat of The Hollow, the Mikaelsons made their plans to leave New Orleans and to move on with the next phase of their lives:
Hayley Marshall and Niklaus Mikaelson decided to relocate with Hope to Mystic Falls, Virginia, as she and Niklaus accepted Alaric Saltzman's offer regarding enrolling Hope in the Salvatore School for Gifted Children. Freya Mikaelson would follow them so that she could stay with Hope to teach her how to be a witch and provide help in controlling Hope's power if the need arose.
Kol Mikaelson and Davina Claire moved together to San Francisco.
Rebekah Mikaelson and Marcel Gerard would reunite for several months but after spending time together traveling; they would come to realize that the desire of being together and the reality of being together without the veil of forbidden love were two different things altogether. So they parted ways on amicable terms, putting the past behind them. Marcel Gerard would return to New Orleans as head of the vampires, working in partnership with Vincent Griffith, the Regent of the Witches of New Orleans.
As for Elijah Mikaelson, in his quest to redeem his brother Niklaus, and to bear the burden of "doing what must be done," he had become a bit of a lost soul, no longer sure of his place in his family, or even in the world. His thousand year blind devotion to Niklaus had resulted in heartbreak after heartbreak and monstrous deed after monstrous deed. He was recovering from having been dead, a real death; he had lost Hayley, he was no longer welcome in New Orleans and once he left there, he would never return. The witches and the Ancestors would not allow it. He would not be following Niklaus to Mystic Falls because of Hayley, and his other siblings were preoccupied with their own lives. For the first time in Elijah's immortal life, he had no plan.
And that, Dear Reader, has set the stage for the story that is about to unfold before you.
Author's Note: It was announced recently that Season 5 would be the last for this great show. This is sad news as The Originals is by far the best show on television. It is a modern day Dark Shadows for those of us old enough to recall what that show was about. I wish all the Cast and Crew well and look forward to their next projects.
