Elijah paced the study as Angelica made her case for restoring the link. Elijah was opposed to it telling her it was too great a gift. Elijah had his fill of rituals and witches and spells while in Mystic Falls and in New Orleans, and he did not trust Mason either. But Angelica was very determined. Elijah told her that he did not need the link, he loved her regardless of whether they were linked, and he actually agreed with Mason that he would in no way support linking their lifelines back together. When Elijah said that, Angelica knew she was wearing him down, he had just compromised on the type of link, and as any negotiator knows, that is the first step toward reaching a deal.

Angelica would spend the next several weeks working on Elijah. The Seven were easy. She explained what Mason told her about the ritual and they all agreed to participate if it meant her happiness. Once The Seven agreed then Elijah was outnumbered and soon relented, consenting to the ritual she wanted that would restore the psychic portion of the sire link. Angelica called Mason to tell him all were in agreement so all they needed was for him to tell her when he was ready.

Those weeks were difficult on Elijah for not only had Angelica been working on him about the linking ritual but Rebekah was also working on him to reconcile with Kol. When Elijah had found out what Kol had done to Angelica, it did not matter to him that it happened 300 years ago or that Kol was now a different person. Elijah was angry that at no time did Kol himself tell Elijah what he had done. Kol had plenty of time to tell him especially in light of the five years spent in Freya's created world when they were both so close to death. But he said nothing until confronted about it by Elijah on the phone. Kol tried to mitigate his silence by telling Elijah that he went to Spain after being awakened from the daggering only to find that the old church had burned down and he had thought Angelica was really dead. He saw no point in dredging up the past and Elijah himself had forbidden anyone of the siblings to talk about Angelica so he let it be. Elijah would not accept Kol's excuse and told his brother he was not welcome in New York City.

Rebekah was frustrated with Elijah's stubbornness and was growing restless in New York City. So she announced she was headed to San Francisco to see Kol, determined to patch things up between Kol and Elijah, and then she would swing through Mystic Falls to visit with Hope, Niklaus and Freya. She would be back in a few months, she told them. No one would miss her more than Rafe. She was tempted to ask him to go with her but she knew his duty was with Angelica and his brothers. Rebekah kissed him goodbye and then she was gone.

Summer had descended upon New York City and with it came relocating to the house in the Hamptons. It was actually quite a grand estate with all the amenities of the penthouse thanks to Charlie. He was never one to be far from his computer systems and always maintained connectivity with AEM Enterprises.

It had been over a year since Elijah's decision reunited him with his lost love, and not a day went by that he didn't rejoice in that decision. They would spend the evenings walking on the beach together and waking with the sunrise nestled together in bed. They were a formidable business partnership and AEM Enterprises had already acquired two more companies and three more patents since Elijah joined the business. They were part of the New York elite yet no one really knew who they were.

Elijah kept in touch with his siblings by videophone set up by Charlie, everyone except Kol. He refused to take his calls and even hung up on Rebekah when she called him then put Kol on the phone. Angelica urged him to reconcile with Kol but all Elijah envisioned was the 80 years of torture he saw her endure and the nightmarish visions that resulted from that hellish experience. Elijah blamed himself for what happened to her and he dedicated the rest of his immortal life to ensuring that he would protect Angelica from everything and everyone that would do her harm.

It was the middle of August when Mason's call came in. Angelica hung up the cell phone and could barely contain her excitement as she ran to Elijah to tell him. She was talking so fast Elijah had to get her to take a breath. "Mason, he found the last item, an amulet, he's ready," she said. Elijah had hoped that Mason would never be ready to perform the psychic linking spell. Elijah had hoped it would be impossible. Angelica wanted it to happen so badly and Elijah wanted to give her the world, anything she wanted. But Elijah still felt it was too great a gift for her to give him.

He would never admit that he missed the link to his sire line, the silence was almost deafening, but Angelica understood the exhilaration that came with being at the top of the link, there was a power that came with the energy produced by the sire line link and she wanted to give that to Elijah. She had built an empire and she had built her own sire line, and he did not want to take that from her as he had no right to do so. But he was caught between the virtual rock and a hard place, between making his wife happy or disappointing her, and he did not want her to ever let her down again.

Elijah did not trust Mason but Angelica did, so he stood by his agreement. He and The Seven listened as she repeated the details of the ritual Mason had explained to her on the phone. She was beaming as she went through it all and it made the eight of them happy to see her elation. The ritual would take place on the Autumnal Equinox so that Mason could draw power from the seasonal change and planetary alignments. She explained the ceremonials bowls and other artifacts he would be using as well as the ceremonial blood sharing. It all seemed so simple.

But Elijah called Freya and discussed the details of the ritual with her anyway. She told him that she was not familiar with Mason's techniques but what was described seemed consistent with what he wanted to accomplish. "Brother, I should come there to ensure all is as it should be," she said. But Elijah told her not to come, that her place was with Hope, but he appreciated her offer. He was sure it would all be fine.
