A week later they were ready to implement their plan. Mason broke his cloaking spell that had kept Angelica hidden from Roman Alexander for the last 400 years. He also removed the runes he had etched into her bones so that they would never be used against her again. She was now a beacon that they knew Roman/Romulus would follow. He was arrogant, he was overconfident, and that would be his downfall.

Charlie provided Angelica with a custom fitted soft Kevlar vest that would provide protection for Angelica's unborn child. It was lightweight and allowed her flexibility to move. Charlie scanned the security monitors for any sign of movement and checked the perimeter alarms three times per day, even though Mason had set a boundary spell to warn them if someone crossed within a mile of the safe house.

Rafe and Albee wore battle dress and were eerily calm as they stood at two different points on the front porch, watching and waiting. Rebekah and Kol paced the house, annoying Elijah as he stood at the window, transfixed on an enemy that would soon appear. As he gazed out the window, he reflected on the lengths that Mason had gone to over the last 5000 years to save his brother, because that is what this was really about, Mason/Remus saving Roman/Romulus, and he saw parallels to his own experiences with Niklaus over the last thousand years and the atrocities he had committed and the people he had used all to save the Mikaelson family. He wondered if this wasn't karma coming back at him for his past sins committed in the name of family that he would find himself at the will of someone else similarly motivated. He cared not for his own life but the life of his wife and his unborn son were on the line and this plan could not fail.

The magical perimeter alarm sounded as Roman passed the boundary marker headed toward the safe house. A moment later Charlie's electronic alarms sounded and everyone sprang into action. As Roman approached the house it was Mason who met him at the edge of the woods, alone. Roman looked at Mason, taunting him, "Your plan has failed, Brother. I know you have no son in which to escape. You will soon be merged with me and we will be one." Roman let fly the dragon fire at Mason but Mason used his magic to deflect the fire ball, igniting the trees in the process. Roman directed more dragon fire at Mason and Mason deflected and defused volley after volley.

"Where are your comrades, Remus? Did they abandon you?" asked Roman, but Mason again did not answer him. Elijah, Rebekah and Kol appeared suddenly behind Mason and Roman laughed. "You're outmatched, it is you who has failed," said Mason, taunting his brother back. But Roman paused for a moment and said, "I've outsmarted you again, Brother," and with that the woods erupted as Roman's army exited the woods advancing on the house. His was an army of unsired vampires, of Niklaus' unsired line, roughly 500 of them." As the three Originals engaged the unsired army, Rafe emerged from behind the house and was leading Alpha Team, compiled from Angelica's line of military men turned vampire. The unsired army collided with Rafe's experienced fighting men and the area would soon be covered by blood and flesh and limbs. Roman's army outnumbered Alpha Team but Alpha Team had the advantage of greater skill for combat and military maneuvers.

As the battle between the two infantries raged on, Roman turned his attention back to Mason and the firefight between the Dragon and the Warlock resumed. The fire continued to blaze as errant fireballs ignited the woods and the vampires from either side alike. For Mason, he blasted Roman with energy waves knocking him off of his feet but Roman would respond with more fire, keeping Mason on the defensive but Mason had to keep Roman moving, the plan depended upon it. Rafe saw Elijah still in the fight against the unsired and moved next to him, yelling, "Elijah, this is not your fight. You and your siblings are needed elsewhere. Go!" Elijah did not want to leave the fight, did not want to abandon Rafe, but he nodded and he, Rebekah and Kol vanished in a flash.

Charlie watched it all from the control room, giving orders and providing direction over his headset to Rafe, the Alpha Leader. As Charlie looked over the aerial surveillance from his computer monitors, he smiled in satisfaction and gave the next command over the headset, "Bravo Leader, move in." With that command, Albee, leading Bravo Team entered the fight from the left flank and the two companies now had Roman's vampires cornered. The army that The Seven had spent the last 100 years amassing had now gained the upper hand and won the battle as the unsired vampires fell, one by one, until they were no more.

Mason continued to counter Roman's attacks. Roman could see that his army was failing but his hubris was so great that he stayed in the fight with Mason, confident he would best his brother and fueled by the success that he believed was so close at hand.

The three Original vampires appeared again behind Mason, now armed with swords. Roman too slowly began to realize he was at a disadvantage and as he paused to assess the three Originals, Mason hit him with a blast of energy that sent Roman flying backward onto his back. Mason leapt and pinned his brother to the ground. Roman laughed as dragon fire began to swirl in both of his hands, he had but to touch Mason and he had won. But it was now time for the Originals to act. In the blink of an eye, Elijah and Kol were at Mason's right and left side, and each plunged their swords into Roman's hands, staking them to the ground extinguishing the dragon fire in the process.

Roman laughed as he looked at Rebekah holding her sword, "You fools, you cannot kill me, you have lost." Rebekah snickered, "Oh, this sword is not for killing you, that one is," she motioned over her left shoulder. Roman's eyes widened as he raised his head and saw Angelica emerge from the smoke, as if moving in slow motion, heading toward him. Her eyes were flashing bright green and she wielded the Dragon King's long sword. As Mason held his brother down he told him, "Brother, our time apart has come to an end. It is time for us to begin anew, as was always our destiny." Roman saw the amulet around hanging around Angelica's neck and he now recognized that the ritual he had stopped 5000 years ago was about to be fulfilled. "No!" he screamed and struggled against the swords in his hands, and against Mason, but Rebekah staked his leg into the ground. As he screamed, Angelica leapt high in the air and as she came down, she thrust the long sword through Mason and Roman's hearts down to the hilt, burying the blade deep into the earth beneath them. "Checkmate," said Angelica as she released her grip on the hilt as the two brothers died at the same time.

Kol was standing next to Angelica when the unexpected energy wave emanated from the now deceased twins, the force of which blew all four of them at least twenty feet back. But Kol had anticipated the energy wave just in time and managed to pull Angelica into him so that when they landed she landed on top of him rather than impacting the ground. Kol shouted in pain as he was impaled on the broken tree branches but he held Angelica tight, cushioning the fall and protecting her from the wood that would likely have killed her and her unborn baby. Elijah and Rebekah leapt to their feet and rushed to Kol and Angelica, helping her up and pulling the branches out of Kol's back. Thanks to Kol's quick thinking and Charlie's custom vest, Angelica and the baby were unharmed.

Elijah noticed Angelica's eyes fixed on Roman and Mason's bodies. He followed her eyes and saw what she was seeing, they could all see it. Two separate wisps of green energy were now rising up from the two deceased brothers, entwining together then merging into a single wisp of energy. Roman and Mason's bodies ignited suddenly and began to burn. The single wisp hung in the air for a few seconds above the bodies then suddenly shot across the clearing into the amulet around Angelica's neck. The amulet's gemstone glowed green for a moment and as the single wisp passed through the stone it entered Angelica's body. Angelica closed her eyes at the sensation and then she smiled as she felt the merged souls of her father and uncle blend with the soul of her unborn child. She looked at Elijah and smiled, saying, "They are at peace."
