In the days that followed, the Mikaelsons made their plans to leave New Orleans. Hayley, Hope and Niklaus would go to Mystic Falls, Virginia, so that Hope could attend the Salvatore School for Gifted Children. Kol and Davina had already left for San Francisco. Rebekah needed some space and decided to go to New York City for a while. And Elijah, he knew he would eventually follow Niklaus to Virginia but he needed time to come to terms with life without Hayley.
Niklaus found Elijah brooding in the study and decided to take the opportunity to speak to his brother about this new chapter in the Mikaelson's lives. Niklaus knew that Elijah was despondent over Hayley but he sensed there was more to his brother's pensive mood than that, although that alone was enough. Elijah looked down at the floor and put his hands in his pockets, mulling over whether to respond to Niklaus' inquiries. Niklaus spoke again, "Brother, what is it?" Elijah took a deep breath and then told him about something he experienced while in Freya's pendant, after Hope had brought him back into his right mind. Elijah spoke about standing in that long white hallway with all the doors, behind which he kept a millennium worth of memories. He knew it was over with Hayley, the way she looked at him, the fear, the disappointment, and then she disappeared. Elijah told Niklaus that he stood there in the hallway, despondent and alone, looking at the floor but when he raised his head back up he noticed that the door behind where Hayley had stood had a pair of golden angel's wings affixed to it. He stared at those wings and thought about going inside, escaping into the happy memories he knew he would find there. But he was afraid to enter because he knew there would be terrible memories, as well, and he could not bear to experience those again. Niklaus sat back, quiet, and let his brother continue. Elijah told him he resisted the temptation to escape into that room and instead remained in the hallway. But his mind was kept occupied by the memories he allowed himself to recall of her ... of ...," Elijah's voice trailed off because he could not bear to say her name. "I hadn't allowed myself to think about her for 300 years and now, since being resurrected, I find she occupies my every thought."
Niklaus listened intently and assessed Elijah's emotional state, perhaps he was ready to talk about her again. "Brother, we have respected your wishes and not spoken of her in 300 years, even though both Rebekah and I shared deeply in your grief over her loss. Are you certain you want to speak of her now?" Elijah nodded, and the two brothers reminisced over a cherished woman dead some 300 years now. Niklaus decided to share with Elijah that since he was freed from Marcel's dungeon that he, too, had been thinking of her. He had seen a sketch drawn by Hope that resembled her, and when he asked Hope about the sketch she said it was "Aunt Lica." The resemblance to her was uncanny and it stirred up long-buried memories. The two brothers drank a toast to a 300-year-old memory and to much happier times, and then parted ways. Hayley had wanted to take Hope to see Mary before they left for Mystic Falls, and Niklaus wanted to see his daughter before they left for the bayou. The brothers embraced and parted company, Niklaus to find Hope and Elijah bound for his bedroom.
Hayley had been packing to leave when Elijah walked passed Hayley's room. Hayley did not notice him as he saw her crying as she looked at something in her hand. He stopped to watch and saw her eventually drop the item in the trash. Hayley wiped the tears from her eyes and left the room. Elijah quickly retrieved the item from the trash can. It was a business card for AEM Enterprises with contact information for Lica Dragonetti. He turned the card over and a cell phone number was written on the back of the card. Elijah pocketed the card and quickly left Hayley's room as he heard her returning. He went back to the study and looked at the card again. He had noticed the M in AEM was in the exact same style as the M that adorned the Mikaelson compound in New Orleans.
Elijah confronted Hayley about the business card. Hayley was annoyed that he had spied on her and thought about her promise to Angelica to keep Angelica's part in their salvation a secret but Angelica was dead, all of Elijah's sire line was dead, and Angelica was of his sire line. Hayley sat down on the couch and decided to tell Elijah the whole story. When she was done, Elijah was intrigued by this woman that Hope called "Aunt Lica" and the lengths she had gone to help Hayley and the Mikaelsons, "I don't know anyone named Lica Dragonetti," he told her.
