Chapter 47

Angelica was two weeks overdue and Elijah was anxious. Freya had already come and gone having confirmed that all was well with Baby Mikaelson from a supernatural perspective. Angelica's arsenal of scientists included a pediatric and obstetrics team that were part of her vampire lineage, and they stood ready for weeks at the local hospital with advanced equipment ready to receive her when she was ready. Rafe and Elijah were in the study discussing AEM business when Rebekah came running into the study, yelling, "It's time!" The two men just looked at her, and she furrowed her brow, put her hands on her hips, and yelled, "People, get moving!"

Rebekah returned to Angelica and Elijah followed. The two siblings had Angelica by each arm as they walked her to the SUV. Rafe was already there, engine running, and they loaded Angelica into the SUV. Albee pulled up in the second SUV and Charlie jumped in with him. They had been prepared for weeks and her bags were already in the SUVs as well as two sets of baby items and car seats in case one of the SUVs broke down. They arrived at the hospital without delay and were taken to the private delivery suite.

Elijah and Rebekah were in the delivery room with Angelica while Rafe, Albee and Charlie paced in the hallway like expectant fathers. Angelica was in labor for several hours before she finally delivered. Rebekah came out to them, smiling from ear to ear with tears running down her face, "It's a boy, and he's perfect!" Rafe hugged her and wiped the tears from her face.

The christening ceremony was two weeks later at the Connecticut house and all the Mikaelsons were there: Freya, Rebekah, Kol, Niklaus and Hope. None of them had ever seen Elijah or Angelica happier as they showed off their son to the family, and the Mikaelsons were elated by yet another miracle birth in their long-dead family. Champagne flowed and toasts were made. Rafe, Albee and Charlie looked on, already implementing plans for the newest Mikaelson's protection detail.

Before the ceremony began, Kol had walked into the study to find Niklaus and Elijah huddled together in a quiet conversation. Elijah turned to him and Kol noticed that Niklaus was trying hard to maintain a poker face, but was failing as he started to smile from ear to ear. "Kol," Elijah began, "I have something important to ask you." Kol looked rather quizzically at Elijah then at Niklaus, then back to Elijah. "Kol, would you do Angelica and I the honor of being ... the godfather?" Kol was taken aback by the request, not certain if he even heard Elijah correctly. Why would they ever want him, the lesser brother, to be the godfather? He was the family screw up, he had done terrible things to Angelica, he was ... unworthy. But Elijah stood in front of him, placed his hand on his shoulder, and looked into Kol's eyes. Kol stared back at his brother and said, "Me?" Elijah smiled and said "Yes, Kol, you." Kol could not stop himself, "But why?" Elijah just looked at him but it was Angelica who provided the answer, having appeared in the doorway of the study. Kol turned around and she walked up to him, saying, "Kol, the past no longer matters. It is only about the present and the future. I can think of no one more suited to be our little one's godfather than you." Kol fought back tears as Angelica embraced him. He nodded his head in acceptance of the high honor that Elijah and Angelica had bestowed upon him.

There was never any doubt that Rebekah would be the godmother. Elijah handed their baby boy to Angelica and put his arm around her. Kol and Rebekah stood at their sides. Niklaus took a photo with his phone so that he could create another painting for them for the baby's room.

Elijah addressed his family, both Mikaelson and Dragonetti, "Angelica and I are so pleased to have our entire family around us on this glorious day, and I know that you all have been dying to know what this little angel's name is, so ..." he paused for a moment, until Niklaus said, "well, out with it!" Elijah smiled and said, "Beloved family, it is our pleasure to formally introduce you to Henrik Finn Mikaelson." The selection of the name memorializing the deceased and much loved Mikaelson siblings brought smiles and tears of joy to their faces, and for the first time in a thousand years the entire Mikaelson family felt ... alive.
