EPILOGUE
Angelica was sitting in the rocking chair nursing Henrik Finn when Elijah entered the room. He paused to look at his wife and son, at the beauty of the moment, still in disbelief that he was actually a father even though it had been three weeks already. He smiled at her and sat down quietly in the chair, afraid as if somehow disturbing this scene would make it all disappear. When they were finished, Angelica walked over to Elijah and placed their baby boy into his arms, kissing Elijah on top of his head. Elijah looked into his son's green eyes and then into Angelica's eyes, saying nothing as a tear fell down his face. Angelica wiped it away for him and kissed him again, embracing him as she sat on the arm of the chair he was sitting in. Henrik Finn was a powerful first-born Mikaelson witch, a warlock, a dragon, and a living vampire. But at this moment, he was only their little baby boy.
Henrik Finn had fallen asleep in Elijah's arms when Charlie appeared in the doorway of the nursery. He motioned to Angelica and she walked across the room to meet him at the doorway. He whispered into her ear then she whispered back, Charlie nodded then turned and walked away.
Elijah asked Angelica quietly, "What is it?" sensing that something was amiss. Angelica told him that some boxes had arrived by special messenger from the AEM offices and were now downstairs. Charlie had already cleared them but there was a letter that accompanied the boxes. "A letter?" he asked, "From whom?" Angelica paused for a moment then answered, "From Mason." Elijah looked at Angelica and could see the concern in her face. Rebekah came in at just that moment and walked to Elijah, saying, "You both need to go downstairs, Auntie Bex will take care of this little one," and she gently scooped the sleeping Henrik Finn out of Elijah's arms. Elijah kissed his sister and gave her his chair. She was beaming from ear to ear as she settled in. Elijah and Angelica stood there for a moment just staring at Rebekah and Henrik Finn, "Well, go on now, we'll be here when you're done." Elijah placed his hand on Angelica's lower back as the two nodded and walked out of the nursery then down the stairs.
They walked into the study where Charlie, Rafe and Albee were already waiting with five large crates and a letter. Charlie again told her he'd cleared the crates, they contained quite a lot of books but nothing dangerous. He then handed her a sealed envelope addressed to her. Angelica immediately recognized the handwriting as Mason's writing. She sat down at the desk and Elijah stood over her shoulder. "Would you like some privacy, my darling?" he asked. Angelica shook her head saying, "No, please stay, all of you." She picked up the letter opener and Elijah noticed her hands were shaking. They were trembling not in fear but rather at the memory of the loss of someone who was very special to Angelica for a very long time, and whose betrayal she had not yet resolved in her heart. Elijah gently took the letter opener from her hand and opened the envelope for her, then handed the envelope back to her while he set the letter opener back down onto the desk.
Angelica took a deep breath and removed the letter from the envelope. The room was silent as she read the letter to herself. After several minutes she handed the letter to Elijah, rose up from the chair and walked to the window, staring out into the distance. Elijah read the letter aloud:
My dearest Angelica,
If you are receiving this letter then our plan was a success and my brother and I are unified and at peace, with the legacy of Alexander, the Dragon King, having been restored. I know that I have no right to ask for your forgiveness but it is my hope that someday you will find it in your heart to grant me that forgiveness as you watch your beautiful son grow into manhood and assume his birthright as the next Dragon King. Know that I ceased to live with the love of a father, a proud father, for you in my heart, for you are my daughter regardless of genetics.
