After two months had passed since Elijah had returned to her, Angelica reached Mason in Europe on the satellite phone and asked him for a monumental favor. Angelica was not one to ask for favors, especially magical ones from Mason, so she was nervous and unsure of how to put it into words. Mason could hear her hesitation through the phone line and told her, "Angelica, my darling girl, what is it?" She paused before answering, "I ... I want to restore Elijah's sire link."

Now it was Mason's turn to pause, "Angelica, I don't know if that is even possible, why would you want to do that?" Angelica explained to him that for vampires, the link was a part of them, and for a vampire like Elijah, an Original, to have had his entire sire line die when he died, that had left a void in him and she would like to restore that by giving him her sire line. "That's complicated, Angelica, it took a vast amount of power to sever you from his sire line, that is why you are alive today, you, Rafe and the boys, and the generations they have sired. I don't know if I am able to establish that link again. Let's talk again when I am back in the States, we should be wrapping up the dig in about six months."

"If you think that is best," she said, and Mason could hear the disappointment in her voice. "My dear, I will begin researching the matter while I am here, perhaps there is a way if this is what you really want. However, I am not inclined to restore your lifeline to him, I do not want your life in anyone else's hands but your own." "But Mason ...," she protested and he interrupted her, "Angelica, listen to me and I don't mean to be cruel or harsh, but are you certain he has returned to you for good? You are committing to giving him the most precious gift you can and I don't want to see you hurt again if he leaves you for that werewolf girl, or some other pretty face that crosses his path."

Angelica was silent and Mason knew he had struck a nerve, intentionally. "I will make a deal with you," Mason continued, "I will see what I can do about restoring the link but I want you to give it a year. If he is still with you a year from now, and if I am able to figure out a spell or ritual to restore the link, I will do as you ask, but I want you to be sure. And I want to have a word with your Elijah as well, I may not be your father but you are like a daughter to me, and I need to have a face to face chat with that husband of yours."

"Mason, I ...," she began, "Do we have a deal?" he pressed. "Yes, Mason, thank you," she said, and then they said their goodbyes. As Mason hung up his satellite phone, he smiled, because Angelica had unwittingly set in motion the next phase of Mason's master plan; a master plan that had been nearly 5000 years in the making and would soon come to fruition.
