The Dragon King was the name given to a succession of noble kings whose reign ended 5000 years ago in Northern Europe. The last of the noble Dragon Kings was named Alexander and he was a great warrior, skilled in all forms of combat, was highly intelligent, a master of strategy, and a highly charismatic leader. Alexander had ginger hair and green eyes and stood nearly seven feet tall. The Dragon King was worshipped and respected by his people, a warrior tribe that was undefeated in battles that increased the expanse of the Dragon's King's realm. The Dragon King would select seven of his greatest warriors to serve as his military commanders and as his personal guard. With these trusted few by his side, his kingdom would soon encompass all the peoples of the European continent and he was spreading into the Asian continent as well. His realm had already expanded across the sea to Iceland and the British Isles.
The Dragon Kings were of a unique lineage that possessed the qualities of pyrokinesis, creating and controlling fire, and with it came immunity to fire and heat. This made the Dragon King a truly terrifying opponent to face on the battlefield. The Dragon King was also a warlock: a skilled sorcerer who was millennia ahead of his time in his knowledge of alchemy, physics, chemistry, biochemical engineering, neuroscience, necromancy, and many other matters of science and of nature.
Each Dragon King would only produce one male heir who would become a full-fledged dragon upon turning 25 years of age. They would groom their son to assume the leadership mantel upon the death of the Dragon King. It was always a harmonious transition of power between the Dragon King and his heir and it was this harmony that had led to the vast empire that the current Dragon King now ruled.
It is unknown exactly when and how the Dragon Kings came into existence, but the legends tell of Ancient Powers that created the first of the Dragon Kings thousands of years before, and these Ancient Powers bestowed upon the first Dragon King the powers possessed by Alexander. The Ancient Powers decreed that each dragon could only produce one child, always male, to prevent dragons from pushing out the indigenous human population as dragons are a superior species and would have easily become the dominant species on the planet. The dragons were to serve as guardians of the earth to protect the people from some great evil that was prophesied to one day walk the earth.
Alexander fell in love with Rhea, the daughter of Voltanus, the powerful leader of a coven of witches whose village Alexander had recently taken in a bloody battle in Southern Italy. Rhea in turn fell in love with Alexander, angering her father as he thought this a betrayal to their people. Rhea was beautiful with dark brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, a slim appearance and she stood roughly five feet six inches tall. As the first-born child of Voltanus, she herself was a very powerful witch as were all first born of Voltanus' bloodline.
When Alexander and Rhea married, Voltanus became enraged and determined that he would find a way to destroy the Dragon King's reign as the Dragon King was too powerful and that power centralized in one man was unnatural. Voltanus and his coven called upon the darkest of black magic and placed a curse upon the Dragon King in an effort to ensure that once Alexander died, his progeny would never be able to take up his legacy again.
However, Rhea became aware of his plan and placed a spell upon the Dragon King in an effort to protect him from the coven's dark magic. The curse took all the combined power of the coven to perform and involved forbidden blood sacrifice and spells that the coven had never before performed, tapping into the Ancient Powers to fuel their curse. When Rhea became pregnant by Alexander she gave birth to twin boys on the day of the Autumnal Equinox. It was an unusual birth because in the entire lineage of Dragon Kings each Dragon King fathered only one male child. The strange birth was accompanied by a lunar eclipse and other signs that forebode the evil that had been spawned that day.
