Angelica knew that she had finally heard the truth, the whole truth, from Mason and needed time to process the weight of it all. Elijah was worried about her as it seemed anyone she loved or trusted ended up dead or betraying her in some way. She was incredibly resilient but even she would have a limit to how much she could take. He went looking for her but she was nowhere to be found inside the house so he went outside to the one place he knew he would find her, the roof. He climbed up on top of the house and sat down next to her.
It was a beautiful clear night, the stars lit up the sky, and there was no moon. The sounds of crickets echoed in the night. She leaned her head against his shoulder and he put his arm around her and held her as she began to cry. She cried for Jeremy, Conrad, Mick, Lonnie and Epstein. She cried for all her vampires who died by Roman's hands. She cried for their unborn son who was now at risk of never being born because of a 5,000 year old pact with dark magic and Ancient Powers. She cried at the knowledge that Mason had manipulated her for the last 400 years, someone she loved and trusted like a father, and he had created her for some twisted endgame to a 5,000 year old family squabble.
Elijah whispered to her that she had forgotten something, and as she looked at him with tears running down her face, he reminded her Mason does not control destiny, and it was destiny that brought them together, it was destiny that they should fall in love, and it was destiny that two creatures who were never meant to have a child would soon be parents to a beautiful baby boy. And now it would be their destiny to restore the legacy of the Dragon King. He wiped the tears from her face with his handkerchief and held her tighter. The two leaned back onto the roof to simply stare at the stars.
With the sunrise, Elijah and Angelica came back into the house to find a discussion going on around the breakfast table about supplies. There were not enough supplies to make the paste necessary to keep Angelica healthy for three months, someone would need to find the ingredients and bring them back to the safe house. Kol volunteered to retrieve what was needed, having been a witch he was very familiar with the items needed for Angelica and he could obtain them without returning to New York City. Rebekah and Rafe volunteered to obtain the other supplies necessary for their extended stay at the safe house. Rebekah, staying positive, wanted to be prepared for the birth so baby supplies were on the list as well.
The three set off in two different directions leaving Elijah, Angelica, Albee, Charlie and Mason at the safe house. Angelica would not speak to Mason and headed to take a shower and change her clothes. Charlie handed Elijah a newly programmed and encrypted cell phone and Elijah thanked him. Charlie nodded his head then wandered back to his computer room. Elijah's eyes followed Charlie as he left the room, wanting to say something comforting to him on the loss of his comrades but sometimes there are just no words. Albee stood next to Elijah as if reading his mind, "Charlie will be alright. He's always been more comfortable with his computers and gadgets anyway." Elijah looked at Albee, and Albee continued, "Each of us are men of war who should have died in those wars. But instead of a hero's death, we found ourselves trying to make sense of things in a world that did not want us in peacetime. Angelica found each of us and she gave us purpose. She made us a family, and for that, each of us owes her our gratitude, our loyalty and our love. If that means we won't survive the battle that is to come, then so be it, therein lies our destiny." Albee slapped Elijah lightly on the back then left the room.
Rafe and Rebekah returned by mid-afternoon, the SUV packed to the brim. Kol would not return until the next day but he kept in contact via text messages with Rebekah on his progress. Niklaus was ready to leave Mystic Falls to help but Elijah stopped him, telling him that it was under control and he needed to stay with Hope. When Kol returned Elijah asked him whether it would be better if he returned to San Francisco to be with Davina.
