Mason continued, it was not until 1778 that Angelica saved the six year old Remus from being murdered by his brother's allies on that road. Remus had spent the last seventy six years searching fruitlessly for Angelica, had changed bodies twice since Angelica disappeared. But Romulus had tracked Remus down and had both Remus and Remus' son cornered, or so he thought. The "son" with Remus was a decoy and when Romulus slew the decoy and Remus, Remus did not transfer into Romulus. Romulus sent agents out to find Remus' son with orders to kill him on sight. And it was those agents who very nearly killed Remus on that road before Angelica miraculously saved him and staved off the Armageddon in the process.
Mason told them he pondered the circumstances of events that led to his reunion with Angelica. For all that had happened, it was Angelica's destiny still to be an instrument in the weapon that would save Romulus and Remus. Now separated from the Mikaelsons she dedicated herself to saving Remus, now Mason Dragonetti. But Mason saw that she suffered terribly from the separation and sought to sever the link between Angelica and Elijah. When he severed her sire link to him, he thought it would be the end of it but it was not. Although Angelica was fiercely loyal and dedicated to Mason, she was still drawn to Elijah.
When Mason located Elijah in New Orleans, he brought Angelica to New Orleans under the guise of being reunited with Elijah, but timed it so that she would see him with Celeste DuBois. It broke her heart to see them together and to see Elijah happy in the arms of another woman, and they left. Mason hoped that would be enough to sever her attraction to Elijah but it was not, she still was drawn to him. When she returned to New Orleans on the night of the theater fire, Mason assumed she would be reunited with Elijah but he had fled with his family from Mikael. Angelica was devastated and Mason waited a year before he came to New Orleans and brought Angelica back home to New York.
When she proceeded to create The Seven over the next seventy years, Mason was elated as he thought that Angelica had given up on Elijah. He found the selection of only seven interesting as she was a dragon and every Dragon King had selected seven trusted warriors to serve him, and she had recreated that with The Seven.
Romulus dropped out of sight and Mason suspected he went into hibernation since he was unable to produce another son while Angelica lived, he had lost track of Remus when Angelica saved him. Mason knew that Romulus would again emerge some day and he needed to be ready.
For Mason, he had spent the last 300 years continuing in his search to locate a descendent of Voltanus and fine tuning the spells he would need to enact the weapon against his brother. But Mason admitted he received his final lesson in destiny when the Mikaelsons fell and Angelica sprang into action to save her beloved but estranged family. Angelica had obtained blood samples from Hayley for the four fallen Mikaelsons and it was Mason who engineered the antidote for Freya's poison. But Marcel's bite was another story and would require the seven werewolf bloodlines as Freya instructed. It was Mason and his worldwide genetics project that located the medical student Keelin. But it also found something else that shook Mason to his very core and gave him the ultimate lesson on destiny. After 5000 years of trying and failing to locate a descendent of Voltanus, he found not one, but four of them, and they had been right under his nose for nearly 400 years.
