*Two and a Half Years Later*

Scarlett's POV

Heather and I stood on stage, just barely finishing our audition. The director stood there glaring at us... Were we that terrible....?

"Both of you studied at Juilliard?" She asked.

"Yes ma'am." I said. Heather nodded and we waited patiently.

"Heather you're a remarkable performer. What made you want to come to us? Why did you want to revive Great Comet?" She asked.

"It was... No. Is a wonderful musical. Just everything about it can always make someone smile. The raw emotion and how close you can be with the audience just makes me so... Happy." She smiled. "It would be an honor to be apart of the cast that brings it back."

"And you... Scarlett... Your mother was with us when we were starting out. Right?" The director asked.

"Yes." I smiled.

"Why do you want to revive it? Are you chasing your mother's coat tails?" She laughed. "Or are you just joking?"

"What?" I frowned.

"Scarlett, you may look like a spitting image of your mother, and have spunk, but I just don't see it. Your voice isn't capable of this just yet. Maybe next time." She smiled. "Heather, I want you here Monday morning for rehearsal." She pointed.

"But... Scarlett has worked hard for this!" Heather yelled.

"Heather don't mess it up. I'll be fine... There are other musicals." I whispered.

"But... You did!" She frowned. I shrugged and walked off stage. We started to head down the isles and I heard some yelling involved behind us.

"Scarlett, wait." The director sighed. I stopped and turned to look at her. "Why didn't you mention your parents before your audition in your papers?" She asked.

"I don't want anyone to know who I'm related to until after I show them what I have. I don't want to rely on my parents to get me where I want to go. I want to find my own way in this and I won't stand for the taunting of being helped by my parents." I explained.

"Then why would you choose a musical your mother was in?" She asked.

"Because when I was little, she would practice her songs at home. It always made me smile and brought so much joy in our lives. I don't remember a lot because I was really little, but I remember her voice singing to me." I smiled. "I just want my mom to look at me on stage and think to herself, 'Wow. My kid got herself there. I'm so proud of her.'" I laughed. The director looked at me and smiled.

"Your answers still won't change my answer. I will say one thing about you though Scarlett." She said while placing her hands on my shoulders. "You may want to make your mother proud by doing this, but she's already proud of you. You look just like her, you talk just like her, and you act just like her. Chasing after the weirdest thing that you can find, that makes life worth living." She smiled. "But this show isn't you. Find your voice.. Then come back to me." She said quietly before hugging me. "Tell your mom I said hi too."

"Of course..." I faked a smile and left with Heather.

"I didn't expect any of that." Heather said while we walked through the busy streets.

"I didn't either..." I groaned. We found our train stop and waited for the train. "My mom is gonna want to swarm me with happiness when I get home. I'm just gonna redirect her to you." I shrugged.

"I love your mom, but I can't have all that happiness. It'll kill me." She laughed. I shrugged and waited. Maybe I should try my hand and other things that weren't really my cup of tea...

"Did you get it? Or did you mess it up?" Amelie laughed when we walked in.

"Shut up." I said while walking passed her.

"How was it?" Mom asked.

"Heather got Sonya." I answered. "I was told that I needed to stop riding your coat tails." I said while sitting down on the couch.

"Oh Scarlett." Mom frowned. "I'm so sorry..." she said while hugging me. "It'll be alright. You can try other musicals." She smiled.

"Yeah.. maybe I'll be so lucky to get rejected from them too." I scoffed.

"Do you want me to pull some strings?" Dad asked.

"No! Didn't you guys learn last time?!" I yelled. "I don't need my parents help!" I groaned.

"Lin.. I think Scarlett should do it." Mom said to him.

"Are you sure? Like we've been through so many.... And she just said..." Dad frowned.

"Trust me. I know that musical inside and out. I helped you write it. I know the character. Let her." Mom said through gritted teeth. I frowned and looked at dad.

"Alright... But you can't get mad Scarlett because technically we're helping you this way..." Dad sighed. "Or... We could have her audition! That way we can give her the fair chance!" He smiled.

"True. But I doubt you'll find someone that'll fit her better." Mom scoffed. "And you." She pointed at Heather. "I'm happy you got the part. You'll have so much fun." She smiled.

"Thank you." Heather laughed. "So this musical? What's your pitch?" She asked dad.

"You'll see." He smiled. "Scarlett, I'll need you to come to work with us in the morning. Then we'll really see where your talent lies." He laughed like a crazy, evil guy while walking backwards. I rolled my eyes and looked at mom.

"Don't look at me! That's your dad." She laughed.

"And your husband." I smirked.

"He has no chill. You know this." Mom shook her head and we watched dad act like a weirdo throughout the house. I wondered what they were having me audition for...
