I know this isn't really how it happened, but I had to change it a little. Sorry.
The next day, when Julie got to work, all of the newsies were standing talking in urgent voices.
"Hey guys, what's wrong?" she asked. Davey looked up startled.
"Who are you?" he asked, confused.
Specs laughed. "Oh right," he said. "You weren't there!" The rest off the newsies quickly recounted the drama of the previous two days to a confused Davey, a wide-eyed Les, and an amused Jack.
"So," Davey clarified. "You are that boy we met the other day? Mikey?" Julie nodded. Davey grinned. "Okay then."
"So anyways," she said again. "What's wrong?" A shadow crossed Jack's face.
"Dey had da nerve," he practically shouted. Julie stepped back, surprised. "Ta raise da price of our papes!"
Julie's eyes dilated. "What?" she asked.
Specs stepped up. "They raised the price. Now we have ta pay 10¢ for 60 papes instead of the usual 50 papes," he said.
Julie groaned. "You've got to be kidding me!" she exclaimed. "I ain't got enough money ta get by as it is!" Crutchie and Romeo both nodded in agreement. "So what are we gonna do 'bout it?"
Jack looked surprised. "Whatcha mean? What can we do?"
Julie shrugged. "I dunno, but we's got ta do something! We can't just let them walk all over us like dis!"
Davey whispered something to Jack. Jack looked lost in thought. He stood up abruptly. "Dat's it!" he exclaimed.
'What?" Les asked, looking up at Jack admiringly.
Then Jack uttered one word that would change everything. "Strike."
