"Mikey?!?!?" Jack cried out. Julie's eyes grew wide. She glanced at her brother. Help me her eyes pleaded. Spot nodded. Quick as lightning, he jumped up and had grabbed Jack's wrist so he couldn't get away. "Wha....." Jack tried to say. Spot's other hand quickly covered his mouth.
"Ok so listen," Julie began. "Yeah, I'm a girl. You can't tell anyone, and I mean anyone. The only people who know are my brother," she gestured toward Spot. Jack's eyes grew huge. "and Crutchie." Spot raised his eyebrows. "Got it?" Jack nodded. "Good. Any questions?" Spot removed his hand from Jack's mouth and let go of his wrist.
"Yeah," Jack said. "Spot Colon, King of the Brooklyn newsies, is your brother?"Julie nodded. Jack opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it.
"Can I ask a question?" Spot asked.
"Ya just did," Julie grinned. Spot rolled his eyes.
"Whose dis Crutchie kid?" he asked. "An why does he know your a goil?"
"Good point," Jack said. "Why'd ya tell Crutchie, but not me?"
"Well he sort of found out on his own," she blushed, recalling the previous night. "Last night," she added.
"Why 're ya blushing?" Jack asked, laughing.
"I am not!" she protested. Spot laughed.
"Oh yes you are!" he smirked. "You got da hots for him or somethin?" Jack laughed."Hmm, not sure how I feel 'bout this Crutchie guy. Do you approve, Jackey-boy?" Spot grinned.
"Knock it off!" Julie exclaimed.
"Well," Jack said, ignoring julie, who was getting redder by the second. "I thinks we better take you ta meet him. You've probably seen 'im before, but I think you should really get ta know him, ya know, your little sister havin da hots for him and all!"
"Stop it!" Julie glared at him.
"Good idea!" Spot nodded in approval of the plan. He was enjoying teasing his sister. Julie smacked his arm.
"Don't you dare!" Julie scowled. If looks could kill, both boys would have been lying dead on the floor.
Spot sighed dramatically. "Fine, I suppose I won't burst out into da world demanding ta see dis guy."
"Thank you," Julie said, rolling her eyes. She pushed her hair up into her cap again. "Come on. Jack said da boys were wondering where you went."
