Clover 🍀
The school called my parents the next week, telling them that a whole bunch of students had volunteered to help me get used to the school, and that on Wednesday, at 2:00, they would hold a meeting and assign the very first person to show me how to comfortably get to..... First Period? I don't really know what they mean by first. Don't we just stay in the same room all day?
Anyway, the week went on, and Wednesday finally came. We left the house and arrived at exactly 2 p.m. As I walked inside, I was greeted with what seemed like more than one hundred voices.
"Welcome to Fireals!!" They all screamed and cheered, but I was a bit confused.
Why would they do this for me? I don't think they would go through all this trouble for anyone else. Maybe, there were balloons and streamers. And maybe it was beautiful, but why would they do it, for someone like me, who can't even appriciate it.
I walked in awkwardly, watching my every move. I felt a person in front of me, so I stopped walking and looked up.
"Hi Clover! We are so glad to have you! All the students you hear are here to help you through the year."
"Th-thank you. I-I am very grateful that you have all come. And- I just- yeah- that's it."
"Good. First we will all form a line and introduce ourselves to you, then I will assign your first helper, that will tour you around the cafeteria, the auditorium, and your first period. So, I'm Mrs. Florence, nice to meet you."
"You too?"
And so it went on, I met people who shook my hand wildly, and some who barely did because they were jumping around, probably all giddy. I didn't find anything weird about this. It all seemed fine. I mean, they all volunteered, so they all actually wanted to be here.
Close to the end of the meetings, I got a person that didn't seem at all, happy to be there. His tone was annoyed and bored. He shook my hand saying, "Hi. Nice to meet you, or whatever. I'm Max Roynail. I'll be helping you around I think."
"Thank you? Are you okay, Max?"
"Yes. Why wouldn't I be?" He snapped at me.
I was about to answer, but Mrs. Florence cut me off with her arm, stepping in front of me, separating the contact I had with Max. "That is enough, Max. I believe you might want to keep your attitude to yourself, and not to Clover. Next, please."
"Hi nice to meet you!" This girl turned on the nice switch again. And again I responded with a smile, which I wasn't sure if it was a pleasant one.
After we finished Mrs. Florence said that my first helper would be named Katy Hopher. She sounds like she would be the girl that said things about death. It was strange. She didn't quite please me too much.
I don't really think, she will be very pleasant as my first helper, but she is still here for me, and that makes it up.
"So, here is your first helper!"
I was about to greet the girl for a second time, but she got to it first.
"Hiiiiii! My name is Katy Hopher! You can call me Kiki though. I'm so excited."
She grabbed my hand and started jumping up and down. This definitely was not the girl I thought. Kiki, huh. Why would they call her Kiki? It doesn't remind me of anything. It probably has a reason, I'll just ask her later. While I was wondering, I got my answer.
"C'mon lets go. Ki, ki, ki, ki." That is how she laughed. Ki, ki, ki, ki.
"Okay." I managed to say before she pulled my arm into an empty hallway, that created echo as we walked through it.
"So, just so you know, I have the exact same schedule as you, to make sure you are okay. So, we'll be great friends!" She hugged me tightly, pulling me into a great sense of protectivity.
She let go and then walked with me around, what she said, was the cefeteria. It was ample. I could tell that. "Next, I'll take you to your first period."
We walked, left, right, left, left, and the we faced right. This was my first period? Okay then.
"You might want to get here a little early, so that you won't have to worry about finding a desk, and you can just sit in whichever until they sort you, depending on the teacher."
"Okay. Is there more you will help me with?"
"Yup. One last stop! The auditorium, just so you know how to get there. We might do something in there and you must be here for that."
"Oh, okay then, are the chairs over her-" I tripped over one of the stairs but luckily, I caught my balance quickly. I cleared my throat. "So, these are the chairs?" I sat down in one of them and looked in her direction.
"Are you alright Clover? Don't be embaressed. It's okay." She sat down next to me.
"What do you look like, Kiki? I mean you sound sweet and pretty, are you?
"I guess that's for opinions. Well, I have brown hair. It's really long. I have pale skin and wear headbands."
"Could I, um. Feel your-"
"Oh, sure go right ahead, most people say I have really soft skin."
I held my hands up to her face and began to feel it. It was symmetrical. Her hair was silky and her eyebrows seemed as if they had been trimmed.
"So, what do you like to do?" She asked intrested.
"Well, I like doing many things. Like crochet, or origami, maybe even reading."
"What books have you read?" She asked.
"I've read classics the most. I like fantasy ones. But, I like writing books too. Well, short stories actually, but I write in braille, so nobody could ever read my stories."
She let out a slight chuckle. "I wish my friends were like you. They don't value anything. I bet they think I'm annoying. All I'm known for is being perky, but it would be nice to be known for something more important, ya know?"
"Well, I am your friend, now, I think, right?"
"Of course, you are my best friend right now, and I am yours, right?"
"Yup." She gave me another hug, then decided it was time to go.
We walked back to the school entrance. It had been at least an hour and a half, since we started the tour. Everyone seemed to have left.
I heard no sound, and everyone was gone, except for the so called, Max Roynail.
