October Is Lame

Report cards are almost out, they are out this week! I have two C's on my report card, stupid Italian and Biology. Isn't this the usual time when people start going crazy? You guys get it!

It just turned October, and I hate it. October is so lame. There is nothing to do, and I don't need all you enthusiasts telling people, "What do you mean it's pointless? You get to have Halloween and stuff!"

And I'm sorry, but I just don't see it that way.

Anyway, besides my hate for report cards and October, it was an odd day, and I sat at lunch with Melissa, who seemed to be ignoring me.

"Hey, Melissa, did I do something wrong?" I asked her while she was texting.

"Hm? Oh, no, you didn't," she answered.

"Then, why are you so...distant?"

"Ugh, I'm not. Just, think of it as a small-personal-space phase."

"What? But I'm your boyfriend."

"Don't take it personally, It applys to everyone."

"I...well...I'm going to go to Biology, see you in A.P. World, I guess."

During the past weeks, Clover has been full out, avoiding me. She hasn't talked to me at all, which was too bad because she was actually really nice, and pretty, and smart, she also-no! What am I thinking? She's blind, she's a freak! I'm with the hottest girl in school, that should be everything I've ever wanted.

But-Clover...

I made it to Biology and sat down beside her. I watched her for a while, and thought about the reason. Maybe she was in a small-personal-space phase too. I sucked up my pride and tapped her shoulder. She shrugged and nodded her head, to let me know she was listening.

"Have you been, avoiding, me?"

"N-No, I would never do it intentionally, well I, your friend told me to not talk to you so much anymore. I thought you put him up to it."

"What? No! What did he loo- what did he sound like?"

"He was about your height the voice came from the same direction as when you talk to me, he had a clear tone and was on the bus. His accent reminded me of a type of-"

"British accent?"

"Yeah, exactly, so you know?"

"Yeah, thanks Clover."

"Anything for a classmate," she turned back around and I smiled. I suddenly got the courage to ask something else.

"Hey, Clover, what do you think of October?"

"Oh, well, you didn't hear me say this, but I think it's pretty-what's the word you guys use?... It's pretty lame. Nothing really happens, and Halloween isn't anything too big, but nothing to sneeze at. Why do you ask?"

"No reason," I smiled.

I might actually like spending time with Clover more than with Melissa. I was happy right then, but I still wanted to get up and go find Jason, and then teach his stupid face a lesson. Gosh, I'm so immature. Well, nobody's here to stop me.

As soon as class finished, I found our A.P. World class and I sat behind Clover. We talked a bit. "Why don't you like this class?" she asked jokingly.

"Hey, I have a horrible memory. You're lucky I can remember your name," I answered. I chuckled and a few seconds later, Melissa came in.

She saw me talking to Clover and rushed to sit next to me.

"Hey there Max, about lunch, I hope you can forgive me," she pouted.

I turned away from Clover and said, "Melissa, it's fine, I just, don't want this relationship to be that way."

"It won't. I was just stressed because I failed my test the class before, I promise I won't be that way anymore," I knew that was directed to me, but she was glaring at Clover the entire time. I wonder if they had a problem.

After class, I got onto the bus and I sat at my usual spot, but I noticed that Terry wasn't here, which meant he wasn't next to Clover, which meant I could go sit with her. I was on the verge of getting up, but then Jason came in.

"Hey Max, how's the girlfriend doi-"

"Did you tell Clover to avoid me?"

"What? No, Max, why would I do that, she-," he lied and I narrowed my eyes. "Fine, I just told her to back away at the beginning of the year. I know she hasn't been talking to you, but you've changed. It's because of her, and I told her to back off because you don't need to change."

"Oh, sorry mom, didn't realize you were secretly my best friend. I don't need you looking out for me Jason. If I want to change, I can! If I want to be friends with Clover, I can!"

I resisted the urge of punching him. I sat down next to Clover and left Jason a few seats behind us.

"H-hey, those things you said, they were nice, thank you, friend," she blushed.

"No problem, I just said what was on my mind, so, are you like another version of spiderman?"

"What?" she laughed a cute laugh.

"I mean it, its like you have 20 more senses than we do, most of which include your amazing hearing ability."

We continued to joke around. Terry got on just as the bus began to move. By this time, I was already sitting next to Clover, laughing and joking around with her. I knew he would try to get in between here, and I wasn't about to have that happen.

I turned my back to him and I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Can I help you," I said in a snarky voice.

"Uh, oh, just wondering if you guys wanted to come to Starbucks on Friday after school with me. You know, just in case report cards are harsh."

"Sorry, I don't think-"

"I'd love to, as long as you help me there and then home, cause I'd miss the bus," Clover interrupted my rejection to Terry's offer. If I let her go by herself, who knows what this kid could do to her.

"Actually, I'll go too," I changed my mind.

"Great," he walked down the rows of seats until he found an empty one.

I still don't like Clover, but I consider her a semi-friend, I guess, but I'm just going to keep an eye on Terry. That's the only reason.
