I went to school the next week and heard lots of whispering. Too many gossip groups to have been just another scandal. I went up to a group of girls and asked.
"Hey, uh, what's everyone whispering about?"
One of them giggled. "Oh, it's all about the blind girl."
"The blind girl?"
"Yeah, apparently Max Roynail asked her to the freshmen prom. Like, can you believe it? Her, out of all-"
I looked at the floor. "What did she say?"
"Huh?"
"What did she say," I said louder. Almost angry.
"Oh, geez, she said yes, duh, why wouldn't she? I bet Max had like, some sort of pity for her or something."
I turned and walked off. How could she say yes?
Ugh!
Why wouldn't she say yes?! Not like I was doing anything.
I went to second period slowly and got there with the bell.
Today is gonna be a long day.
I left school that day feeling just terrible. My parents had left the night before on their anniversary vacation. They trusted me to not do anything silly that could cause harm to anyone. They left me ingredients so that I wouldn't have to go out to get stuff to make food.
I had an idea.
What if I threw a party? My parents wouldn't know. They're gone until Friday. What if-
I jumped onto my couch and texted everyone I knew (including Clover) that there was a party right after school at my house tomorrow. It wouldn't go on too late, it was a school night, but it would be a few hours.
I was surprised at how many people said yes. I still hadn't gotten a yes from the one person I'm doing this for.
Ding!
New Message
Clover: Sounds great. My mom approved.Yes!
I didn't have enough food for tomorrow so I went out to buy a couple of things. I set everything up that night so I wouldn't stress about it tomorrow. I even fell asleep on my couch.
I woke up the next morning in a hurry to get to the bus. I was way more pumped for school today. It went by so quickly. I got home and finished everything up. Sebastian and Katy were the first to get there. They were really excited, well, Katy was anyway.
The party soon started to take off and my house was filled with my friends. Clover had already been there for a few minutes, and I went over to greet her. She was about to try one of the chips I left out.
"Hey, you know, they're better..." I said taking the chip and dipping it in sauce. "In sauce."
She laughed and took a bite. "Yeah, these are really good. So, how come you threw a party out of nowhere?"
"I just thought, why not? Since school is ending soon and all."
"This is really cool. Oh, hey, Max is here," she said feeling her way to my front door.
Max? Did I invite him? Oh shoot, I actually forgot.
I saw Max greet Cover with a quick kiss. I sharpened my eyes as to make sure that wasn't real. But it was.
Clover seemed almost as surprised about it as me. She wasn't expecting that. Max pulled her into a hug and glanced at me and smiled in a friendly way.
