Max 🐾

I was really happy with our recent dates. Terry had been off lately. He barely talked to me. Today he decided to sit with us.

I played it off fine, no reason to be scared or anything. Sebastian also suddenly asked Katy to the prom in front of everybody.

When he asked her, I couldn't help but feel a bit of panick. I had completely forgotten about the prom! It was only a week away!

"Wasn't that sweet?" I asked Clover when I snapped back.

"You bet, when is prom again?" Clover said oblivious to my plans

"Next week on Saturday," I answered.

"Oh cool, I bet a bunch of more people will ask in the next few days," she said.

I thought about it. Is she saying that because she wants me to ask her? How am I going to do it? I barely have any time. I am also definitely not doing it in front of everyone. I would definitely mess everything u-

"Max, you okay?" Clover asked.

"Yeah, sorry, just thinking about things," I said quickly. "So, I think I'll be heading to class. "Kiki? You get her to her class?"

I got out of my seat and walked to my class. On the way, I identified Melissa's perfume and panicked. Was there time to dodge her? She's right there at her cheerleading locker.

I got my answer when she saw me and smiled.

She was smiling at me, which was odd. "Max, guess what? You can take me to the prom!"

Um, who the flip does she think she is?

"Huh?"

"I'm not dating Evan anymore. We can date again. I know you really wanted to go to this prom with me."

"I think you have me confused," I said trying to walk past her.

"What? I'm the most popular girl in school," she said with a change of voice and slamming down her locker door. "Listen here, I will make you prom king, we'll be the best couple."

She got behind me and grabbed my shoulders. "Imagine it." She passed her hand across my cheek.

Nope, not ever, not again.

I stepped away.

"Sorry Melissa, but I'm already asking somebody, and you're crazy," I said turning around and starting my walk.

"What? Who? I already know I'm better," she said batting her eyelashes.

"Clover. You know why? Cause she's not insane! Now, catch ya later Fort!"

I speedwalked away and got to my class relieved.

The next day I decided that it was about time I got to know Clover way more. I need to ask her this Saturday.

I invited her over to the Starbucks. I bought her a drink and I asked all sorts of questions.

What's you're favorite animal?

What do you want to be?

Favorite flower?

Ever travel?

Do you keep a diary?

What's your favorite food?

I had all that I needed when we were done.

My mom got home early.

"Hey Max, so how-"

"Mom, I need to ask Clover to prom! It has to be super special! Help! I need you!" I said sprinting into the living room and hugging her.

"Woah, Max, prom?"

"Yes?"

"Oh my goodness, you want to ask a girl to the prom! I have a million ideas!"

I planned it all out. Tomorrow, I would invite her to the park. I would play her favorite song. I had a gift too. It was a dog plush, because she said it was her favorite animal. I had a box with a purple bracelet and I would give her a bouquet of roses and four leaf Clovers. Of course the song would be first.

I got to the park early the next day and set everything up. Clover's mom dropped her off and she walked with me to where we had to be.

"I have a surprise for you!" I said.

"Yeah? I bet it'll be awesome."

"It better be," I mumbled. I knew she heard that, but I didn't care.

I played the song. Kiss Me.

"What the? Max?"

I grabbed her hand and pulled her close. I started to move my feet and she followed happily.

I even spun her, but had to catch her because she fell a little off balance.

The song ended and I kissed her right at the last note. She was having fun, but she needed an explanation. She was still confused.

"And now, here are your gifts."

I handed her the plush.

She felt it for a bit.

"Is this...a dog?"

"Yup, it's yours. Now, this one is next."

I handed her the bracelet.

"Oh, this is a bracelet!"

"Yeah, a purple one, thought you might like it."

"Can you-"

I put it on her wrist.

"Also, flowers, but we can do those later."

Now, I held her hand and knelt down so she knew that I was kneeling.

"Max?"

"One last gift."

I pulled out a little sign. It was in braille.

I put her fingers over it and she read out loud.

"Will, you, go, to, prom, with, me?"

She stopped for a second. She then smiled.

"Prom?" Clover asked.

"Yeah," I said worried that she was going to say no.

"Well, no way," she said laughing.

"What?"

"This is your way of telling me that you're too shy to ask me verbally. Ask me yourself."

I looked down. I then stared at her.

"Will-" I cleared my throat. "Clover?"

"Yeah?"

"Will you go to prom with me?"

"Yes, yes, of course I will!"

I stood up and kissed her.

And to think, I was going to ask Melissa to this prom. I guess I just had a change of plans.
