Clover 🍀
I knew the park pretty well. I don't know why it surprised everyone to have me skating around the park I have skated around all my life. For some reason Max decided to accompany me anyway.
I didn't mind it though. I like spending time with him. Not that I don't like spending time with Terry, but not as much. Terry had been acting weird for the last few months.
He was just distant. You'd think I would have that problem. I went on two more dates with Max. I think I made my choice. I'll always like Terry, he was the real reason I went to the mall that day. I thought I loved him.
So silly.
Like I knew what love was.
This is actually why I didn't say I loved Max on our first date. I was scared I would put that word to waste. But I guess I didn't have to worry about that.
Terry actually came to our lunch table today, and I didn't notice at first.
I first heard him say, "Can I sit?" I felt myself stop eating to listen.
"Sure, yeah grab a chair," Katy said.
"What have you been up to?" Sebastian asked him. I wanted to know that too.
"Yeah," Julia said.
"I just felt a little stuck for a few weeks," Terry said. Stuck? I wonder if he's okay.
"Oh, well, hope you're feeling-" Sebastian began to say and then paused. "I'll be right back."
I heard him leave the table. After a few moments he was coming
Sebastian took Kiki to the table next to ours. I could have sworn that he was carrying some kind of flower in his hand too.
"Can I have everyone's attention?" The room turned quiet.
What was he planning?
"I would like to do this in public because there is a more likely scenario she will say yes. Katy Hopher, we began dating last year after our friends pushed us together. We've been on lots of dates and you've never failed to surprise me. You always showed me a great time and understood when to help and when to let me think. You're beautiful and smart, and kind in the way you always wanted everyone to spend time together."
"So," Sebastian continued. "Would you go to the freshmen prom with me?"
"Absolutely I will Sebastian!" She said happily and she then I heard her jump off the table she was on while everyone clapped.
That was a real nice proposal.
I hope Kiki was happy. They are a great couple, I bet they'll have a wonderful time at the prom.
"Wasn't that sweet?" Max asked me.
"You bet, when is prom again?"
"Next week on Saturday."
"Oh cool, I bet a bunch of more people will ask in the next few days."
Max stayed quiet. Did I say something?
"Max, you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, sorry, just thinking about things," he said. "So, I think I'll be heading to class. Kiki? You get her to her class?"
"No problem, let's go Clover."
He left and Kiki told me all about the proposal on the way to my class.
The next day I decided to go to the vending machines early since nobody would be there, to get a snack for myself. I had rushed out in the morning because my alarm was shut off.
I read the braille numbers and letters on the machine and decided to get myself some chocolate chip cookies. I went to the pavillion and sat down at an empty table.
I heard footsteps behind me, and I didn't think anything of them until I noticed they were headed towards me. I smelt the powerful perfume and my nose caught some of the excess eye shadow from Melissa Fort.
I figured that maybe I would still have a little bit of time to walk away, but I underestimated how far away she was from me.
She tapped me on the shoulder.
"Listen here Blindy, I cannot take you anymore," she exclaimed.
"Melissa? What are you?"
"Don't talk. I asked Max to the prom yesterday and he said no...because of you!"
I didn't know what to say. This was the silliest thing to me. How could she expect me to feel guilty about how another person feels?
"Melissa, I didn't do anything. You can't blame me for-"
"It's not fair. How could he like you? You're blind. You can't see him. You can't do-"
"I can do lots of things."
"Yeah, whatever. How could he pick you over me?"
"We are very different."
"Exactly. I'm way better than you."
"I guess Max doesn't see it that way. Listen, I like to think that I'm a nice person, and that I'm a good person. He seems to think so too. Do you think that way about your-"
"I know I'm hot. I know my hair is perfect and I know that I am better than any girl in this school."
"Melissa, I'm trying to help you."
"What?! I don't need your help. Ugh, I just came to tell you that from now on, we're enemies. Au revoir."
I sighed,"À plus tard."
Max found me later on, right before class and asked me to meet him after school. My mom approved and I went to the same spot 2:40.
"Hey Clover."
"Hey, so what's up?"
"I just thought we could chat over some Starbucks."
"Sounds great! Let's go."
We got there and he ordered my drink for me. We didn't talk about anything important. It just seemed like he was trying to get all he could out of me.
When he finished his questionnaire we left and his mom drove me home. He scheduled a date for tomorrow.
I thought about him all night. I dreamt that we were in school, but I did notice, that in my dream, Terry only appeared 1 time.
