Clover 🍀

Max asked me to prom! I thought Melissa was joking. I went home to my mom and showed her the gifts he gave me. Monday went great... I think.

I heard a lot of people commenting about Max's proposal. I left anyway and ate dinner because my mom and dad were coming home late.

I suddenly got a text from Terry.

A party? Tomorrow? What for?

I wanted to go. I knew a lot of my friends would be there too. I called my mom. My parents got me this emergency braille phone so I could keep in touch.

"Hey, sweetie what's up?"

"Oh, hi mom, just wanted to- there's a party tomorrow. You remember Terry right?"

"A party? Clover, it's a school night."

"I know, but it's right after school, I'll be home by dinner."

"Who else is going?"

"Kiki, I mean, Katy. And Max is going too."

"Can he look after you?"

"Of course, he's my date to prom remember?"

"Okay, it's fine with me. Tell them you can go."

"Thank you! Now, I know you're at work, so, bye."

"Bye sweatheart."

I texted Terry back.

Kiki took me there the next day. I got there and wandered around a bit until I found the food. Terry found me and we talked for a bit.

Sam pulled us all to play spin the bottle and I ended up being dared to kiss Terry.

He leaned in. I did too. Our lips connected for a second, but it felt wrong. I pulled away quickly, almost lost my balance.

Terry then called me into his room.

"Clover there's something I've been meaning to ask," Terry started.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"Would you go to the prom with me?" He blurted out.

I got really startled. I didn't know what to say. Didn't he know that Max had already asked  me? I wanted to begin an, 'I'm sorry, but I can't' speech, but he didn't let me.

"I know that Max has already asked you and everything and you said yes, but I really think you should consider. I like you more than he does." Is that all he thinks? What about who I like? It doesn't matter who likes me more.

I took a deep breath. "Terry, this is insane. You can't expect me to go out there and tell Max that I changed my mind and I want to go to the Prom with you."

"But you do want that? It's what you want?" He grabbed my hand. I didn't know what to do. I didn't like the feeling of it on me. I didn't like the way it made me flinch.

"No. It isn't."

I prepared myself to walk away.

"But I like you more. I know it," he said again.
