I Don't Know Anything About You

The next morning, I followed my same schedule and even managed to be earlier today than yesterday. I got on the bus and as usual, I listened to music to pass the time. I soon felt somebody sit next to me and I smiled, sure about who it was.

"Hey!" I smiled and faced him. I smelled his cologne, but it wasn't exactly right. It was different, and I immediately regreted my decision and turned away.

"Wow, I had never heard you speak so energetically. I didn't think you had it in you. You-you thought I was Max, didn't you?" Terry Molse asked leaning closer to see my face.

I nodded my head shyly. "W-well, I-I mean, I haven't, I didn't notice you were here yesterday."

"Well, you have a good- a good ear for this, since I wasn't here yesterday and my parents dropped me off at the lil ol' school. Sorry, don't know why I said it like that."

"You're hiding an accent, aren't you? I can hear it. Your voice isn't comfortable speaking like I do."

"No, I just-well, there's no use in lying. I came from parents that worked in a farm land, they talked like that, so I did too."

"But you've almost perfected the other accent, how-"

"I've been practicin- I mean practicing, but this summer I got the habbit again after I went to visit some famly-family."

"Oh, why don't you use that voice more often, it sounds more real than the one you usually use," I smelled Max come in at the stop. He stopped in his tracks and then sat behind us.

"Well, I guess you're right, but people just wouldn't like it too much if I suddenly changed my accent."

"Why did you do it in the first place then? See, that's the problem with lying. You get swarmed up into it and then you can't pull yourself out," I said too confidently for my taste.

"I guess you're right," he voiced his southern accent again.

"Why are you talking to me anyway? You're the most popular kid in school, at least from what I've heard," I hinted my question.

"Well, I just find you attractive I guess, do ya want me to stop talkin to ya?" he asked, making me blush.

"No, that's very kind of you, I guess I will see you around in school," I hopped off the bus and went into the courtyard where I knew Kiki would be.

She held my hands and sat me down quickly making me tumble over and fall onto her.

"Sorry, I just-sorry," she apologized.

"It's fine, it happens everyday. So, what's up?"

"Were you talking to Terry in there?" she screeched.

I blushed. "No! W-well, maybe. Yes I wa-was."

"Oh, my, rainbow unicorn of sparks land, what did you talk about?!"

"Just school, nothing special, he didn't say anything like what you're thinking," I lied remembering when he said he found me attractive. I was sure it meant nothing.

I had gym class for my second period which was pretty weird seeing as I could not do anything but play chess with Kiki. I then had to go to a Chorus class, which I thought was a mistake, but Kiki assured me that it was meant to be on my schedule. I had never tried singing before, but I didn't think it was something impossible for me to be able to do.

Lunch was next and this time Kiki sat me with different people. We talked a bit and at one point while I was throwing away my trash, Terry walked up to me and greeted me and invited me to sit with him, but I declined since I was already sitting with Kiki.

I had to go to Study Hall, or what they called a Free Period, in which you could go to an empty designated classroom and do homework, or just talk. It was pretty fun, I talked to new people and I think I made some new friends.

My last period was Geometry in which I heard Melissa and her friends near my seat.

After that class was over I went to the buses, with a little hope that I might run into Max when I got there, but no such luck.

I sat down and then guess who sat down next to me. If you said Max, you were wrong, if you said Terry, you were wrong too.

It was Max's friend, the one who interrupted our conversation yesterday. He sat down next to me and cleared his throat to get my attention. "Listen, I don't know what you've done to Max, but he isn't himself anymore, so just, don't do anything to try to change him when he talks to you. Just, stay away from him for a while, okay? Yeah, cause I'd hate to do something to break you apart later." Then he got up and left.

The next person to sit next to me was Terry. He sat down and began, "You know, I've been thinkin, I don't think no girl has ever pointed out my speech in the way you did. How'd you like it if you were my girlfriend?" He said it in his southern voice too, which surprised me.

"Girlfriend? Are you kidding? I don't know the first thing about stuff like this. I barley know you, I don't know anything about you."

"Sure ya do, you already know more about me than my friend Sam, he doesn't know about my accent."

"That isn't much at all, I've known you for a day and a half. I don't think being your girlfriend is a good idea, but I could be your girl-friend," I suggested.

"Alright, I guess you're right. Let me go get my bag, I lent to a friend, and I should go collect it before I forget."

I finally felt Max come through the doors into the bus. I didn't want to face him so I just tried not to focus my head in his direction.

I heard him put his things down onto the seat, but then Terry came back and explained to him why this was his seat.

"How come your sitting there anyway?" Max asked seeming annoyed.

"Wouldn't want to leave my girlfriend alone here, would I?" Terry said confidently.

That word startled me and made me clear my throat to remind Terry of our earlier discussion.

"Oh right, sorry, I mean girl friend, not girlfriend," he corrected.

"Oh, all right then, carry on," Max said.

This was a bigger mess than I thought, or maybe I was just imagining it bigger. I tried to picture Max's reaction, and what it could've meant, but it was hard, since I didn't even know what he looked like.
