Clover🍀

Winter Break is so close now. I like school, but a break is going to be really nice. Today in lunch, it was decided that we should go to the mall on Saturday just to hang out. I said I had to ask, but I'm really not sure my parents will approve. I have to ask them tonight.

The door unlocked and my parents came in laughing.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"We were just remembering how you used to hit your head on everything when you were a baby."

My dad laughed all the way into the other room after kissing me on my head.

"Hmph, well, I don't do that anymore. Anyway, I need to ask you something."

"We can't give you any clues on your presents," my mother said.

"I know, it's not that, it's about, maybe going out on Saturday?"

"On a date?"my mother said with a bit of happiness.

"No, no, with a group of friends."

"Well, where are they going?"

"To the mall?"

"The mall? Saturn Mall?"

"Yeah, they wanna go Saturday evening. Kind of like celebrating Christmas with friends."

"Clover, you know it's dangerous. What if you trip or you get into a crowd and-"

"I know the risks mom- but they care about me. They won't let me out of their sight. I'll be safe, I promise."

"Clover, well, I just don't think that it's the best idea."

"Please mom, please, I'll be safe, also, I need to go Christmas shopping too," I begged.

"Uh... well, if you trust your friends this much, then I suppose..."

"Please."

"Okay, I'll allow it, and I'll try to convince your father. But, if I find the slightest bruise on your arm, I'm going with you next time."

"Okay, okay, thank you!" I hugged her and then walked back to my room.

I can't believe that she let me! She is so great! I'll tell Kiki tomorrow. Tomorrow is Thursday, so I have plenty of time to prepare. I know Terry's going, I wonder if Max is going too.

I met up with Terry in the morning since it was an A day and we have our first period together.

"Hey Clover, what's up?" he came and kissed my cheek. I felt myself burning up as he pulled away.

"Uh, nothing, oh by the way, my mom said yes to the mall on Saturday."

"That's great! So did mine!"

"Do you think Max is coming too?" I asked.

He cleared his throat. "I dunno, maybe. Why does that matter?"

I smirked a bit because I was still upset at him for only using his accent around me. I told him to at least tell our group of friends, but he's embarrassed.

"Oh, it's just, well- he's just been on my mind lately."

"I see, sorry if that came off as rude."

"No problem, but you do seem defensive every time I bring up Max, why is that?"

"It's just, it's nothing. Nothing..."

"Okay then, hey shouldn't the bell be-"

Ring

"There it is."

We headed inside and Kiki met us there. I heard her kiss Sebastian and then she sat down.

It was the same boring class, but I was distracted the whole time. I tried to follow along, but most of it sounded like gibberish. Max was on my mind. He had been there since yesterday and I could not figure out why for the life of me.

Terry got defensive when I talked about him. He gets weird when his name comes out of my mouth. I can hear it in his voice. Maybe he knows something I don't.

My thoughts suddenly went back to that time in November when Max said," Because I like you!"

I had responded with, "Well, I know that. We're friends, aren't we?"

Was that the right thing to say? He told, me he liked me, like a friend right? Well, he got frustrated after I said that, maybe it wasn't just a friendly gesture. No, I'm just making it all up. Plus, he had just broken up with Melissa.

Friday was a B day so I walked to class with Kiki.

"What did your mom say about Saturday?" she asked.

"She said I could go, sorry I forgot to tell you yesterday."

"It's fine," she said. "Also, what's going on with you and Terry?"

"What do you mean?" I asked as I slightly blushed.

"You've been spending a lot of time together, you'd think he would've asked you out by now."

"H-he has, I just don't think it's a good idea. I like being friends."

"So, you're telling me you don't like him like that," she said surprised.

"I do, I'm just, scared things will change too much. What if something goes wrong?"

"I'm just saying, you won't know until you take a chance," she said holding my shoulder.

After school, I walked to the buses with Max and he was feeling a lot better. He had been a little weird ever since he broke up with Melissa.

"You going to the mall on Saturday?" he asked.

"Yeah, what about you?"

"I think I'll go, not sure."

"Oh, well, I hope you go."

"Thanks... So, what's with you and Terry?"

"What about me and Terry?" I asked a little uncomfortable. Why did he ask the same question that Kiki asked?

"I don't know, just wondering since you've been spending a lot of time together and everything. Are you guys like a-a thing?"

"No, but, people have been asking that question. Why does it seem like we're a thing?"

"Well, you get along, I always see you smiling when your with him, and I guess you guys have a lot in common."

"Is that how a relationship is supposed to be?"

"Well, yeah, that's what most people look for in a partner most of the time. Someone that they like spending time with. Someone that they miss even if they're only gone for two minutes. At least that's what I think."

I thought about it. I loved hanging out with him, he was my favorite person to be around. I like him. I do like him, he's great! Kiki is right, I need to take a chance.
