Chapter 60

-JAMIE'S P.O.V-

    Alright so.. a few days out from Zee and Rose's wedding. And Lynn is starting to show.
     I lean down and kiss her belly again.
"How many times have you done that today?"
"I don't even keep track anymore, Ly."
     She smiles widely to me. I kiss her belly a few more times before laying back against the pillows.
"Are you alright, J?"
    I turn my head to her and nod. But worry lines her eyes.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing is?"
"Jamie."
"Okay. I don't want to be apart for another night. Especially when my wife is pregnant. What if you need me? What if something happens and I'm not there?"
"I'll be fine."
     I raise my eyebrow. "Fine is a common lie."
"I'll be okay."
"Can a wife not worry?"
"No. You ask me not to worry."
"That's because you're pregnant."
    I lean down and kiss her belly again. She giggles to my gesture.
"Besides if the situation was reversed, you'd do same."
"Yeah, but it's not. And it's not like we can't message each other or anything."
    I kiss her stomach again and sigh. She grabs my hand and lightly squeezes it.
"Lay with me, Koala."
    I lay back on the bed. She wraps her arms around me and pulls me as close as she can. I made her agree that the second she started showing, we wouldn't lay on each other. So here we are...
"I miss you.."
"I'm right here, Ly."
"I miss you anyway."
     I laugh at her and kiss her cheek. I try to smile but it's small.

~      'Are you okay?'
        Fine. Why?
        'Can feel your heartache.'
        I miss laying on Ly. My pillow. Or me being hers.
         'For a good reason, JJ. 6 months. That's all.'

"Koala.. I love you." Her eyes clear, sadness set in.
"Don't stress about meeee. I'm okay. I'm just a big baby that misses her pillow."
    She laughs and kisses my forehead.
"I miss my pillow too."
"I love you, Ly. I do. And I love our baby. But I miss having my pillow."
"I know, love. Your sister is right. 6 months. It won't be that long."
"A night is too long."
"So it's agreed. We're never getting married or having family members get married again that we have to split?"
"Agreed."
    She laughs and then sighs. "Be happy with me."
"I am happy."
"Then don't be sad."
     She brings her hands to my face and forces my lips to smile. I laugh at her and push her off.
"Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, Koala. I'm doing okay."
     I nod. Yesterday she got really bad heartburn and felt like she was about to puke acid. I felt so terrible cause there wasn't very much I could do.
"Stop worrying, Jamie."
"I'm sorry."
"Jamie."
"Okay, god. I'm sorry."
"Jamie."
      I sigh. She leans in and kisses me. I love her kisses. I kiss her back, though the kiss is short, it's still everything to me.
"Are you better now?"
"You always fix me."
     She smiles. "Let's get some sleep."
"Did I wear you out?"
      She nods, I smirk. She smacks me lightly.
"Oh come on."
"Fine. Take your victories."
"Not tonight."
"How shocking."
"It's not? I just want to cuddle with my wife okay? I'll take the victories later."
     She kisses my lips lightly and then lays her hand on my chest. I begin to fall asleep to my beautiful wife. Who always knows when to...
"Jamie.." She coos.
"Mhm.."
"Koala."
"Mm."
"Jamie.." She whispers lighter.
"Nn."
"Koala.."
"I love you, Ly." I barely whisper out.
"I love you too, Jamie." Always awake enough to hear.

   The world grows cold as she leaves the bed. I know where she's going. I quickly get up and follow. Within seconds she releases all she had in her stomach. I put her hair up and sit behind her.
    As she's done for now she lays back against me.
"The rolls have changed."
"What do you mean?"
     I wipe the sweat from her brow.
"I use to hold you like this."
"I swear to god, Lynndsie if you have cancer I will die."
    She laughs. "No. Pretty sure I'm just pregnant."
     I nod and kiss her forehead. She sighs. Like clockwork for the pass 2 and a half months, she gets up suddenly out of a deep sleep and runs to the bathroom. Before Penelope has the chance to bother us for food.
    And on cue, Penelope walks in and lays next to us. She huffs. Lynn laughs lightly.
    I kiss Lynn's temple. "How about my wife go lay down and I come to bed after I feed her?"
"My hero."
"I try."
    I get up and walk out with Penelope. Lynn brushes her teeth and then walks out. As I feed Penelope, I still keep Lynn in my vision.
    After a moment I crawl in bed and lay next to her. She curls up next to me, her arms wrap around me and I wrap mine around her.
"Just for a little while longer."
"Of course, Ly." I lean in and kiss her cheek lightly.
    She's so close to sleep. So beautiful. So perfect. My absolute everything.
"Ly.." I attempt to coo.
"C..Can't.."
"I love you, Ly." I whisper lightly.
"I love you too, Koala." She whispers lightly as she falls.
    It doesn't take me long to fall in rhythm with her.

    I lightly kiss her cheek as our alarms go off. She groans and shakes her head.
"Babe, we have to go."
"I know.. but I'm tired."
"We can sleep later."
    She opens her eyes slowly looks up to me. "Promise?"
"Of course, Ly."
     She nods and gets up. It doesn't take long until we are dressed. I can see a small babybump through her shirt. I can't help but smile to it.
"I'm fat."
"You aren't."
     She grabs my hand and our fingers lock. I love how her hand feels in mine, the warmth, the perfect fit.. And just how it makes my heart flutter.
     Even though we separated hands to get in the car, they rejoin when we get situated. The drive to the doctors seemed slow. And it was.
    We were waiting, already checked in.
"Lynn and Jamie James?"
    Lynn squeezes my hand and we head into the room together. The nurse tells her what she needs to do, Lynn lays on the bed and looks up at me. She grows a smile.
"Are you alright, J?"
"I'm excited? Nervous. Worried. Terrified. Happy. You know, a bunch of things."
"Don't be. Nothing is wrong. She's perfect, don't be so worried."
    I nod and lean down, kissing her cheek. The doctor walks in.
"Mrs. James?"
"Mhm."
"And I suspect the wife?"
     I smile and nod. I love how people can be open but hate how some are so closed. He offers a handshake to both of us, we take.
"Let's look at your baby's progress?"
     Lynn lifts her shirt up to the point where she was told to. He gets everything ready.
"This may be a bit cold, Mrs. James."
     As he applies the gel to her stomach, she squeezes my hand for a moment.
"Do you want to know the sex?"
"Wild guess and say girl." Lynn says and smirks at me.
"You would be right. She looks perfect." He moves around searching for something...
   And then.. I hear it.... her heart beating.. Alex's little heart beating. Lynn's hand squeezes in mine and I look down to her. She smiles widely.
"She's got a very strong heart beat."
      After a few moments of looking at her and taking a picture or two...
"I would be expecting her around mid October."
      He hands Lynn a rag to help her clean up a bit. After she's cleaned up, she sits up.
"Do you want the pictures?"
"Please?" I ask.
     He nods and reaches over to grab them he hands 2 copies of each to us and smiles.
"See you again in another 3 or so months, Mrs. James." He smiles and walks out.
     We walk out shortly after him and head to the car. I can't take my eyes off of Alex. I didn't even know we were at the car until Lynn drops my hand.
"Jamie?"
"Hm?"
"You owe me a nap."
    I look up and she smiles widely to me.
"Of course. I know."
"Call it stupid... can we make a scrap book?"
"I was going to ask you that, Ly."
    Her smile grows. We climb into the car. Heading home annnnd...

~    'How'd it go?'
      It was beautiful. Her little heart beat... it was beautiful.

     We walk in the house and immediately head upstairs. Penelope flops on her bed and the cats curl up next to her. Lynn lays down on the bed, she groans loudly. I laugh.
"Sleeeeeeep."
    I change quickly and crawl in bed. She gets up and does the same. I hold her as close to me as I can. She nuzzles close to me.
    She yawns.
"Sleep, baby."
"Can't.."
"I love you, Ly." I whisper softly to her.
"I love you too, Koala." She says as she falls asleep in my arms.
     I heard her heartbeat. I heard Alex's heartbeat. It's all real now. It's very real.
     My wife is pregnant with our baby. We have our house. We have everything I've dreamed for.
     There is one thing I dreamt... that I won't tell her... And I know my dad wouldn't have given me that dream if it wasn't true. But it's 3 years from now, or so. It's okay for now.
    Now my wife is with Alex. Now I have 6 months to actually prepare myself to get ready to help her in all ways I can as she's in labor. I'll prepare.
    I'll be ready. I hope. I hope, I'll be ready. ...I don't need hope, I know I'm ready.
    But first... another night without my very pregnant wife.
     I have to get through that first...
